Combination of WP and Static pages?

Hi

Please could I ask your advice? Is it possible to have a combination of a WP blog and static web pages on a site?

I was thinking of creating a sub-directory and loading a few static web pages there for confirmation and download purposes.

What do you think?

Thanks
Di

  • Hi Diana,

it is absolutely possible; my question is, why bother?
I guess the main reason to do this would be to circumvent styling issues (WP taking over the page styling).

What you can do in that case is to create " blank page" template in wordpress without formatting, use that for your "static" pages and go wild with html there, without having to work around WP menus etc...

Let me know if you need help with that.

    Cheers,
    Rob

    • Hi Rob,

That is exactly my problem. I don't know how to create a blank page template. Still a complete newbie here at WP
  • See if this helps (for "blank template")

  • Oh thank you Istvan.

It has already helped me with the "Exclude pages" plugin.

Busy working on the blank template now. Going to take me a while

  • You can likely do it yourself with the suggestions already mentioned. If you want an "off the shelf" solution that's ready to go now, I'd be glad to help you.

I've set my theme up evolve the site from a "blog" centric design to a more traditional "website" layout. The beauty of this approach is that you can feature a "Blog" off the home page. Its called an "inner blog" and since its not on your home page, the home page can rank higher due to its single focus on one primary keyword phrase.

You can then use your "blog" to introduce each new post or page you create on the site.

My theme has an options panel dedicated to your blog settings that allows you to configure the blog section options via point and click (so you are not writing code)

You can read more about the "inner blog" concept on under the headline "Adding an inner blog to your site".
