What do you look for in a niche site design?

I'd like to try making a different design that would work well on niche sites, so I was wondering what design elements you normally look for your niche site?

I enjoy tweaking wordpress themes and finally purchased a developer license for the Catalyst theme earlier this year. I'm not an expert in WordPress or in web design but I really enjoy tweaking wp themes. I only own personal blogs so most of the designs I come up with are geared for those blogs. ^_^ I have lots of free time right now so I'm looking for possible layouts and designs to play with.

I'd also appreciate suggestions on where to get free images that can act as placeholders for niche theme designs (ie. fitness, beauty, etc.).

If you are looking for content around a small business website, I suggest using istockphoto for all your images..that will keep you out of legal trouble..you can download free image software like gimp and create your own placeholders...niche site..product, reviews, uses of products and articles around various topics related to the product..how to, steps, insider tips...things an authority site contains.Good luck.Art

Nika - just try to find some themes that have good call-to-actions integrated into them. I use a lot of affiliate marketing in my niche sites, but they never usually have good creatives for you. So - I make my own! I actually find it fun and can sense that it would be fun for you as well.

The great thing about a Wordpress site is that elements are so easily changed! No hard-coding required!!! My only problem is that it is too easy to change things that sometimes it's hard to know where to stop.

One theme that I have been loving lately (although it's not necessarily the best for a niche site) is AMPlus. It's so easy to use, looks great and is documented so well. Check it out if you get a chance.

iStock is the obvious choice for images, but lately I've found some great free vector art if you are comfortable with using Illustrator... vecteezy.com and free vector.com.

well i guess if you want to use the same theme for different niches then this can be easily done. I would say order a logo or header design service so your image/branding is unique for each site. Get a cheap logo/header off fiverr or something.
