Hi Warriors, hope every is having a wonderful holiday season.

Currently, my blog is set to show the latest posts on my homepage. Should I change that? I've heard that some people set their homepage to show a certain post instead of the latest posts? Anyone have any insight on this? Thanks!

If you use WP, Advance Random Posts plugins can make your homepage display random of your posts.

Hey Emoney - I've done both. And to be honest, I've been able to rank both types of sites just fine. Now I will tell you for most of my sites I prefer to use a static page as the homepage a.k.a. one full blog post/page. But on a couple of sites, I do have the last 6 or 8 posts on the homepage (not the whole post, just the first paragraph or two). I would suggest that you do whatever makes sense to you and what you think would provide the best visitor experience.

If you put up your latest post it will appear to the big G that your content is fresh and relevant.

    Hi,

Either approach can work equally well - latest posts/single post/static page.

Suggest it depends on your audience and what you are seeking to achive with the blog.

Perhaps if it's a news-style blog then a given number of latest posts might be better so it's fresh, carrying latest stuff about the niche/topic of your blog.

Or if your aim is to maximise opt-ins, sell a product on an affiliate basis then a static squeeze/sales front page might be more appropriate.

    Thanks,

    Andy.

I like to do my WP site with the latest posts on the homepage. I also have opt-ins on the sidebar, header, and a sometimes a pop-up. On one of my latest sites I do all the recent posts on my homepage and then a features box below the header, and it's working out real well.

Take a look at the "showcase" template in the 2011 theme: it gives you the best of both worlds

a static component - what you write in the Page's content area
+ a list of the most recent posts (eventually, even featured/sticky posts in slider)

I think it really comes down to how you want your website to function and what you are trying to achieve with your site. I have sites where I completely customize the front page and put the posts elsewhere and I have some sites that I feel require the the posts on the front page.

Look at how you want your site to function and what is best for your type of site and your visitors and go with that. Don't get swayed too much by "what other people do".

Just go to your posts which you want to display top of the homepage. Change "public" with "sticky" on the right side of the page.

then go to your setup under dashboard. Click reading section and restrict your post number for publish.
