Hey guys, I have a video that's about 40 minutes I would like to upload to my wordpress site. WP only lets you do about 50mb so I was wondering if someone could tell me a way around this without having to upload my video in confetti strips on Youtube.

Is there a reason why the video MUST be uploaded to your Wordpress site? I'd put a video that long on Amazon S3 hosting and link to it. It'll probably be cheaper hosting, as well, if you get a bunch of views.

    hi,
why don't you take the advantage of youtube? in such situations i upload the videos to youtube and embed the code in my wordpress blog.
if you do this you get benefited in three ways.

    1. you have content in youtube which will help you to get traffic from there.

    2. you avoid the bandwidth issue that you might have faced if you have uploaded it in your own website

    3. Google loves to see youtube videos embedded into website. that way google will come back to your website. ** it's one of the factors on on-page optimization

    kindest,
    Alex

Alex has some good pointers on the benefits of YouTube for SEO purposes, but assuming you didn't care about that and wanted to get away from the YouTube branding, have you looked into Vimeo?

Super easy to embed and upload.

You could simply FTP the video to your server and then link to it.

But as the previous posters said - doesn't make much sense. Your (shared?) server is not meant to stream video. Use Youtube, Vimeo, S3 or any video hosting services.

Watch out: Vimeo is pretty stiff about commercial videos. Might get it taken down.

    Cheers

When you go higher than the allotted YouTube allowance of 10 or 20 min, Then its time to get an amazon s3 account.

Its really cheap and even after I launched my first video membership site that had over 200 members watching about 20 hours worth of videos, my monthly cost was like $10.

I would also buy easy video player 2.0 since it will make it a breeze to upload your videos to s3 and its an awesome player with tons of features and they have a great wordpress plugin for it as well.

I just upload to megavideo then embed it directly. Like others have said save bandwidth.

      No, it does NOT help...

This is a two months old thread - no need to dig it up.
Your "solution" (Amazon S3) already has been suggested in 3 different posts, which means no need to repeat it.

Read the whole thread before replying, not only the first post!
If you cannot add anything new - don't write anything!
      It's that simple.

I totally disagree, some of us havent been here 2 months and wouldve missed this type of knowledge if it wasnt bumbed

and some of us prefer to see the same option recommended more than once, if someone recommends an idea 10 times as opposed to another idea which is recommended only once i know which way i'll be headed first

granted the post may not have been helpful for yourself but its quite assumptive to say its not going to help anyone

Not being here for long also means that you have no idea what it means to deal daily with spammers that "bump" a lot of old threads just to promote their garbage.

Believe me, if the bumping of the old threads was uncontrolled, you would have missed any meaningful information in the forum because of the rampant spam.

And even if you like it... you'll hardly see 10 posts saying "me too" after a recommendation - because they will be deleted.

As for the members newer than 2 months: find and learn to use the search function and read the information posted earlier. If it was useful, click the Thanks button: no need to post just to say 'thankyou'.
