Developing a Fiverr Clone?

Hey guys.

I've been considering setting up a small jobs site, and I've loads of questions.

Q1
Firstly, do you think the Fiverr clone market is already saturated? There seems to be dozens of them, and very few with much traffic. 99% of gigs on these sites seem to be "not rated yet".

I wonder if part of the problem might be that these sites are trying to be too much like Fiverr, everything to all people, rather than focussing on a particular niche, demographic, or location.

Any thoughts on that would be appreciated.

Q2
What options are worth investigating, and what should be avoided?

There are a plethora of clone tools available for marketers.
(I am not affiliated with any of the following links)

Agriya seems to be the most popular, and robust option, but the lack of pricing information suggests it's extremely expensive.

Then there is NDOT.

Annoyingly, again, I have no idea how much it costs. I wonder if these people realize how many options there are out there. The fact that they don't give a price means many potential customers might just look elsewhere. Anyway, does anyone have any experience with them?

Came across this yesterday. Fiverr Script.
LINK:
Fiverr Script | Fiverr Clone
99 dollars. Too good to be true?

Also, Biverr.
LINK:

Theire BUY NOW button is currently linking to a 404 page. Not very encouraging.

Pricerr Theme looks cool.

WordPress Pricerr Theme | SiteMile.com
The fact that it all runs on Wordpress is nice, and 99 dollars for the standard "mixed license" is good for a cheeky investment.

Finally there is Scripteens Fiverr Clone Script.
LINK:
Scripteen Fiverr Clone Script - Scripteen PHP Scripts
Looks basic, but is only 40 dollars.

Perhaps people have tried some of these or know of more?
Please let me know.
Right now, I think Pricerr Theme is the most interesting to me.

Q3
Has anyone here set up their own Fiverr clone?

Are there any gotchas, such as problems with Paypal, spam etc?

Thanks for any replies.

  • My only idea would be that maybe a niche specific fiver clone might fly.

    Good Luck

    • I thought about doing those and I'm not sure how well they'll fly. How are you going to market it to your specific niche.

At this point, test out the cheapest one or the one that seems like it will allow testing the best (money back, good customer service etc) and then figure out how to market.

One option might be to pick a specific niche forum that isn't incredibly large yet and see if you can buddy up with the guys that run it. That will let you link things so that you have a bunch of customer/clients right off the bat attached to that specific forum. This one's a bit big for that though. There are already systems in place to make money here. (WSOs, etc)
  • Hi Condra, I'm from Agriya and can tell you our software costs $1,000 and it is used by most of the top 10 fiverr alternatives out there. Of course we are aware of how many other fiverr type scripts there are available but we believe our software and the success of our clients speaks for itself.

From our experience working with clients, the people that have a large enough marketing budget or can spend the most time promoting the sites are the ones that do the best, simply building the site isn't a guarantee of success. If you take a site like Zeerk, they spent several thousand dollars on adwords advertising each month to get them to where they are today. Gigbucks have become successful thanks to their relentless promotion.

The gotcha's at the moment are with PayPal and their ever changing terms. First they blocked all the fiverr clones but finally backed down and unblocked it, now they have disabled mass payments for most of the paypal users which makes paying your sellers a pain unless you choose a script with PayPal adaptive payments where the seller is paid automatically once the buyer has confirmed delivery of the job.

For more insight, I recommend heading over to www.fiverrway.com where the owner is really passionate about the fixed price job industry and posts loads of info to his blog.

I agree with other people here about targeting a specific niche. I'm also quite an addict on fiverr.com itself and while I have checked out the alternatives I find the multi-value options a big turn off, I like the fact that all jobs are $5 on fiverr. Personally, if I had the time or the money I'd look to run a fixed price jobs site targeted purely for SEO jobs. Another option might be for graphic designers or you could create a fixed price jobs site for the various CMS's like Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla etc.

If you want to ask me any questions please let me know and I'll try and help you out.

    Thanks,

    Peter

    • Hi Peter Don't Let Fiverr Know that you are a member there and have a competing Software They will Delete your account. and send you a link to their TOS and not tell you exactly what you did if anything. when you know why they deleted your account was because you have a competing Fiverr clone site.
Stepping down from the soap box now.
    • Hi
I agree Paypal is a real pain and have been wondering why we do not have a good replacement for paypal yet. I have considered building upon its shortcomings and offering a payment alternative however no concrete ideas at the moment.
My question is the payment that a buyer makes is held in the account of the script owner while the seller works on the gig? followed by transfer to sellers account on succesful completion.
Fiverr wont even credit the earnings unless job is marked complete or 3 days after delivery followed by a 2 week wait to withdraw it.
I have considered taking advantage of these shortcomings however at the moment the biggest challenege is still figuring out how to work with paypal because it is a major variable and if they block the primary account the whole website can grind to a halt.
  • Hey Condra,

I think the world doesn't need yet another fiverr clone... it'll be hard to break even unless you really know what you're doing in terms of advertising.

I agree with Peter on that...

    Cheers,
    Rob

    • Is there an Australian fiverr.... Id love one to start up

  • There are plenty of scripts out there so there is nothing to be created from the scratch.you can select between the list according to your preferences

I recommend fiverrscript( low cost, cool features) and pricerr theme(Being a wordpress Base)
  • There's always room for more but you need to look at it in a marketing perspective, you need to have something better to add or an extra unique feature or you simply look like another clone or copycat. You'll meed 1. dedicated server. 2. Get tons of traffic and fast 3. the capital to support 1 & 2. (and programmer).

    • Thanks everyone for the replies, especially aceriker (Peter from Agriya). Lots of great info in this thread, and it's interesting to see people agreeing on the focussed approach.

I'm getting away from blogging and reviews, and more into web apps and scalable business ideas, so I'll definitely be giving this more consideration. If I go ahead with it, I'll come back and report my progress, or lack of :p

  • Q1 - there is too many of them. I have also set up one. It was one day fiverr madness. You should find a niche, universal fiverr will not succesed anymore Q2 - I'm running "fiverr script - fiverr clone". I thing it is best option. It is active developing software. I was testing various environments and I like this for it's user interface. Q3 - I have no problems running it because it is just sitting on my server and doing nothing. I dont know how do some cheap propaganda for that project so fiverr madness is over. There is idea: When you copy business idea, copy it right. Do not copy just a software

    • The more I look at it, the more I think there are numerous opportunities for anyone who wants to hone in on specific niches, i.e., traffic, artwork, etc.

I've decided to take that angle, but with a bit of a twist.

Very excited. Wish I could tell yall more about my idea. Best not though
  • How much capital you guys suggest to start with for having such a clone to be successful in terms of advertising and promotion?
  • Ho Ho Ho to you all!

Same as many of you i have thought much on fiverr and fixed jobs market and to tell the truth i have some great ideas that may revolutionize the "gig" industry and i tell that from what i believe most... I ALWAYS THRUST MY INSTINCT AND NEVER FAILED!

I'm on fiverr from about two years now and let's just say that like every webmaster around here i have thought on opening my own "fiverr way" from the first gig that i've sold but the time and resources did not allowed me to do it untill now.

Couple weeks ago i was talking with some friends on a forum of mine about some WSOs that a user put to sell there and in the end we all agreed that there is a need of a marketplace where people to sell "things"... but didn't had the money so i went looking for alternatives...

Of course, the only way of doing it as easy as it gets would be with a fiverr way.. i've looked @net looong hours and tested all the demos out there in all the possible ways ... in the end i've stoped at several companies where i've send a request mails for details and maybe a collaboration...:

    1. Agryia - the best script that i could find in the demos and productions... the most expensive but if they will customize it with your ideas... no comments!

    2. ndot.in - they don't talk too much and didn't gave me too much thrust either but if the script they have is like the demos... well, may(-be) it's worth the try.

3.fiverrscript.com - it's the "original" clone and most probably the most buggy of all but i think you can make your way.
    ...

    4. alstrasoft - please don't buy from them, cause i did buyed last week and payed 60$... does not work, and the support team does not answer to my tickets. In a mail it was suggested to me that i can ask for custom service at a price fo 18$ an hour - idiots... It is the same script from fiverrscript.com only they "changed" the version with 3.0 but it is older.

Now, i have some ideas that may change the gig industry and i know that no one did think of it, i need support and i already have the best two TLDs for this... if anyone is eager to join me... ho knows, i don't mind working with someone where is lot aLOT to gain

@Condra ... never give up and you'll find your way in the end if that is what you really want!
@"aceriker"-agryia ... thank you guys for the info that you gave me on mails in the last two weeks and as soon as i have the resources "I WILL buy your script" for 5$
    • [1] reply
    • Hopefully you've seen for yourself what happens when you buy one of the cheaper options available! These scripts are complex pieces of software, our product is about 20 MB when zipped up, by comparison Wordpress is about 3.8 MB when zipped.

Companies need to spend time and lots of money developing, maintaining, optimizing, improving and supporting their software which isn't possible for $60 a pop. The average programmer in India will earn about $500 a month so you can probably see why you got such terrible service with the $60 script, they can't employ the resources to maintain, optimize and support it.

      Peter
  • My opinion is there are already too many fiverr clones BUT like another member said, if you have something BETTER or MORE to offer then give it a shot...It never hurts to try!

If your looking for other script options and don't have a huge budget check this out: Freebies and Deals I ran accross this in another forum looking for a clone script, now I have so many I don't know what I want to build first lol

Either way, Good luck with whatever you decide to do!
  • Fiverr started well and is now full of junk. If you could take the idea and moderate the jobs better, it would be a useful website. There are limitations in Fiverr on getting your money back, fees etc.

Lower fees + Better Moderation + Better Buyer Protection = Win
  • its very difficult about what you wanna do.Unless you have a lot of money to start with.Buddy, just try to study fiverr`s startup case.
  • There is that many clones out there now you would have to make it some what unique.
  • I think its better to be original..

  • What about a fiver clone where you charge a 1 time member sign up fee or annual fee and they run gigs for free other than the paypal fee you must pay as site owner?Any thoughts.I have a chance at grabbing a clone that has $5-$100 gigs you can post.Any thoughts.
  • I thought of this idea before but as a member how can I guarantee that I'll get even one sale? so in this case I'd recommend small fees to attract sellers.
  • Newbie here. Could any tell me what is the margin of such fiverr-like sites? I see their financing model are all similar. Give 4 , take 1. What are the cost associated with this 20% and what do you think its percentage?.
  • How about a smaller cut say just 10% as well as faster processing of withdrawal rather than make a seller wait for 14 days? That would give the website a clear advantage.
  • I totally support pricerr theme: wordpress fiverr theme
You can also find a better payment gateway than paypal, maybe credit card, there are a lot of providers out there.
