Hello everyone,

I'll be installing wordpress on a test subdirectory but then my client want that when type in the URL for the subdirectory, it asks for a user name and password.

After entering the right details, then the site will be viewed.

Please help me on this.

I will truly appreciate all your help.

Sincerely,
George B.

You can find membership plug-ins that will require users to register before accessing some or all pages of the website.

here's one way you could do it: add a redirect to the page that opens after typing in the subdirectory URL... this could redirect to a password protected page... Once you fill in the correct username/pass, it takes you back to the original destination... search hotscripts for some scripts that offer similar functionality..

You can EASILY do it from your Cpanel. If you do not have cpanel, pleask or most other control panels have an option to password protect a directory.

You can do it from cpanel, in the security options there is an option called 'password protect directories',
This kind of site is also called a Staging site.

Or install and activate the "Maintenance Mode" plugin, and give your client the WP login credentials, or create a new user for him. Only logged-in users with the correct role (configure the plugin accordingly) can view the site.
    Get it here: hxxp://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/maintenance-mode/
