Wordpress Crashes from Amazon Affiliate Links

This is driving me nuts.

When I add an affiliate link to a post in wordpress the post page just hangs. It keeps thinking and thinking - and then does nothing.

I have started with a fresh theme, got rid of all plugins, tried on 2 computers and know that it only happens when I add an affiliate link for Amazon.

Any ideas?

  • Sometimes you can get away with it working for 1 post. Then, when I try again it hangs.

The computer has to be restarted to get IE to work again.

It is almost like Wordpress is looking for the link and doesn't find it.
  • If you're using the WP visual editor, try switching to the HTML editor when inserting the code.

Or try a plugin like wordpress.org/extend/plugins/amazon-reloaded-for-wordpress/
  • Try using a real browser instead of IE? I'm guessing there's probably some kind of javascript niggle in the Ie options which is causing a problem. Try using Firefox and see if that resolves it.
  • Go to Settings > Discussion and make sure the "Attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the article" option is turned OFF (unchecked). If you have it on, WP tries to send a trackback to the main domain of the link, and it waits for a response.

And +1 for switching away from IE.

  • Good tip! Although I've never ran into this problem myself.
  • Adding Amazon affiliate links won't makes your blog into crash.Surely its a plugin or theme issue. But why you need such affiliate plugin.use link shortners to mask the links
  • Where are you copying the amazon links from?
Is it possible that you're copying the links from a word file?

If so, use the "past from word" function, sometimes copying stuff from word messes up things....

    Cheers,
    Rob
