Can you check the performance of my site? I just upgraded my hosting cause I was having 503 errors. So they told me to upgrade and to me the site is loading slower. The homepage is not that bad. It is when you search and click on category page. It was loading fine before I upgraded. The hosting company says it is fine. Can someone check a couple of pages for me. Greatly appreciate it.

    More questions about Qpricing ehh?

Anyway, I ran some not-so-scientific tests on the average page load times vs data that has to be loaded. Anyway, I don't have 15 posts yet so I can't upload a picture of some of the stats I have, so I'll make a little text chart:
    • Homepage: (39.67KB) took .66 seconds to load :: Average of .02 seconds per KB
    • Random Search: (82.8KB) took 8.08 seconds to load :: Average of .1 seconds per KB
    • Another Random Search: (80.79KB) took .98 seconds to load :: Average of .01 seconds per KB
    • Random Category: (78KB) took 1.02 seconds to load :: Average of .01 seconds per KB
    • Random Category: (83.8KB) took 1.06 seconds to load :: Average of .01 seconds per KB
Now call it conclusive or not, but you'll notice the only oddball there is a full 8 seconds to load a search for "Vita Mix"... it was one of the most popular searches. I went ahead and reran the test but only for that search term, and got these time values for loading times: 2.54 seconds, 1.07 seconds, and 2.08 seconds. So maybe it was a oddity that that one search stood out, especially when the amount of data it has to receive is virtually the same as any other.

I would attribute this fluctuation to possibly being on a shared hosting plan...? If I'm correct, and you're on a shared hosting plan, this means that at times, your server can be under more load, therefore its inconclusive to say its yours site causing the problem, because at any given time, the number of other websites on your server could be pulling large loads (or perhaps just enough to delay your page load by a few seconds).

So are you on a shared hosting plan, or do you have a VPS?

I am on a shared host plan. Like I said, before I upgrade from a personal plan to a business plan, it loaded faster. Sorry for asking to many questions, lately some of the stuff with my site has been fustrating and warrior forum has been alot of help with getting it right in the past.

I'm no expert, but my best guess would be your random slow downs are due to the shared hosting. May I ask what company you use for your hosting? Sometimes companies (like GoDaddy) will fit hundreds of users on one server, and while this might be great for your moms website, it sure doesn't work for a site such as yours.

I don't know what kinda of revenue you make from your website, but a VPS might be the next step to full server speed and potential.

Thanks again for your time. I am currently using arvixe.com It is a windows environment site. How much could I expect to pay for VPS?

A good friend of mine runs a number of high class websites and I know he spends around $100 a month on a high quality server, I'll have to ask him which company it is.

Besides that, I know HostGator has there own little VPS section. A "Level 3" VPS will run you about $40/ month. Again, this all ties back to what kinda money you make from the site. If all you're making is $40 a month, I think that random delays/ occasional slowdowns is the least of your concerns :p

You should try tools{dot}pingdom{dot}com. They have a great tool that shows you the load time for each element on your page and gives you a bunch of analysis on performance.

      Thanks Babar2b,

I checked out that pingdom site. The site scored a 97/100 but to me the site still seemed to be dragging loading up. I figured maybe a couple of people from the forum could check out the site and some category pages. To see how it loads for them.

How many seconds loading time did you have?

        Cheers,

          Thanks Rob for responding

The ping test for the home page
from Amsterdam loading time was 2.52 97/100 score
from New york loading time was 627ms 96/100 score
from Dallas loading time was 1.88 97/100 score

          The camcorder category page
from Dallas loading time was 1.51 80/100 score

          I don't understand the score.

Today has actually been a faster day, but I also been going back and forth with my hosting provider.

I would still rather have people go to the site and tell me their experience.

I checked your site and it loaded pretty quickly on my computer. Maybe it's an issue with your pc. Have you tried on another computer?

          Thanks Jeff,
At the moment the site is running good. I also went back and forth with my server as well. Hopefully it will stay loading fast.

its dragging along for me in FF 8.0.1. I'm on a T1 line so everything loads smoking fast...don't forget that it could be javascript or other code slowing down the load time as well, they host may be fine. I say this as when I refresh it load very, very fast which would indicate to me that you might have some bloated code initially slowing down the site until it's in a user's cache.

      Thanks progresst,

Is there a way of finding the code or codes that could be causing it to drag?

I did that and it worked good. The site is on a shared server. Will there be slow times because of shared server?

It can be the hosting provider since if is in a share web hosting sometime can be issues with other webpages. Maybe you should think about a cheap VPS instead shared hosting.

No problem! :p if you thinking about a better web hosting or a vps, you should consider hostgator. They are excellent and the customer support is great.

          Good Luck!

I don't think so, if you want the best hosting for asp.net you should take discountasp Excellent web hosting for .net applications and MSSQL 2008 databases.
