Hi Warriors,

Can anyone recommend a good free CSS editor that's newbie friendly? Am trying to fiddle with the CSS for one of my sites but finding it pretty hard going...

All the best,
Dee

I don't use any specific "CSS" editor: for all the web related files I use PSPad, a free editor with lots of functions. Good for html, php, css and everything else...

personally i think the best way to learn languages like html, css, php, etc is to go old school. this way you know the syntax and you know exactly what you're doing. so i just go with plain old, notepad.

  • Unfortunately the best CSS editor isn't free. I use Topstyle. They do have a free trial.

There are others out there, but most don't do much more than color code and autocomplete syntax. You really need to know your way around before they're of any real use.

You might find the CSS-Discuss group helpful.

any simple textedit or notepad program native to your OS will do the job, its a different story if you want the lines in colour, have syntax checking and so on.

    but free no frills

    windows - notepad
    mac os x - textedit

Thanks for all the suggestions, guys - looks like Notepad is definitely in the running. Also very useful suggestion to go old-school and learn the hard way...

CSS Editor helps you to either understand how certain CSS value works by its WYSIWYG editor, or provide you an inspector to check out what’s exactly the cause for your CSS error, or probably guiding you to decide what CSS property you should use.Nice share ,. imma try this one ['

CSSDesk - Online CSS Sandbox is a great online editor that I use sometimes. It is very quick, visual and will help you learn.

My desktop software of choice is Coda - just out if interest, but it is not free
