Choices when adding "User" in Wordpress

I'm in the process of rebuilding a wordpress site for a client after they managed to cause a bit of havoc deleting plugins and pages, and somehow corrupted the database.

I want to add them as a "user" this time and only grant them access to creating pages and posts, and let them be able to edit them. It seems I have a choice in assigning them as "Editor, author or contributor" I'm not sure what each one means in terms of the functionality they get?

Any advice would be welcome.

Many thanks,

Myles

  • maybe you can assigned them as author, as far as i know author user allows for posts and pages only.

  • "Editor, author or contributor"? Maybe this will be helpfull

    Contributor:
They can write an articles/posts. but it must be apporved by administrator or editor first before publish

    Author:
They can write articles/posts, publish it without approval form editor or administrator. they can also delete their article, but they cannot access artciles from another user

    Editor:
They can write articles, publish it without approval, and they can access all articles from all users

    Administrator, can do anything

    • The roles and capabilities are explained in detail in the Wordpress Codex. It's pretty explicit.
