Does WordPress Guided Transfer carry any benefit over just hosting your WordPress site?

Okay, so I'm at this stage in my IM career now where I'm finally making enough money to roll some of it back into the business. These are the purchases I'm going to make:

Ebook cover for my upcoming WSO product - $5-$20

Warriorforum investments (war room membership + WSO + warriors for hire ad) - $100ish

Elance small business membership - $20/month

Hosting - ???

The reason I put (???) for hosting, is because I'm not sure whether to go for just a straight hosting plan, or to get the WordPress Guided Transfer. The guided transfer gets me from Wordpress.com to Wordpress.org (self hosting) through a series of steps for $119, while the straight hosting option gets me a domain name and hosting for $24 per year. Do any experienced WordPress users here know whether the guided transfer carries any advantage over their regular self hosting option?

I'd never pay over $100 for a transfer from wp.COM to a self-hosted WP install...

Get a domain from your favourite registrar and get a hosting package from (another!) favourite company.

Install a vanilla WP on your domain.
Go to your wp.COM blog > tools > export: get the file on your computer. Check to import everything (pics etc.)
Login to your new WP and > tools > import: get the file from your computer.

There might be some fine-tuning after this - just com here and ask your questions.

    That's it.
