Hostgator multiple scripts crashed Have to upload "wp-super-cache " - still trying to figure out how to set this up.... on all my sites... real pain in the butt. This is what I received from Hostgator.

Hello,

I apologize, but I was forced to suspend the directory [my/public_htm] as multiple scripts inside were causing high loading issues on the server. Due to it affecting all of the other accounts on the system, we had to take immediate action for the health of the server.

Please be aware, we do not normally disable directories except in rare cases where multiple scripts are causing issues. We believe this is the only way to prevent a server crash and potential loss of data.

In general, introducing new indexes, cleaning databases, optimizing existing code, upgrading to the latest versions and adding some sort of caching mechanism, where the script does not need to generate a new page with every request, helps to lower the over load that a script will cause. Likely the original author or support group of the software that you are using will be able to help you to understand how to add something of this nature.

If you reply back to this with your IP address (IP Address Retrieval) we will be more than happy to go ahead enable HTTP access for you, so that you can safely work on the script without it causing further issues.

Please let us know how you would like to proceed.

Do you know any better solution? or How to set up "W3 Total Cache" Step By step?? I am NOT a webmaster Im a marketer so its a real pain in the butt.....

I was having trouble with my site causing 503 errors. Application pool crash, but I would let them know and they would restart it. I finally upgraded and it solved the problem. Can you still operate your site without all the scripts?
I would try a different host. How long did you have the site?

Looks like I just had to set up "wp-super-cache"
WP Super Cache Plugin « HostGator.com Support Portal

Now waiting for HG to reactivate it.
it wasn't because I was getting krazy traffic. it maybe caused too many plugins and auto blogs. let see what happens. but HG help me over the phone...

Just a tip: if you call HG and get a crappy agent hang up and call back.

I just got the same BS email from them.
It related to a bunch (10) WP sites I had set up on a reseller account as demo sites which got very little traffic.
Each site had about 15 to 20 plugins on it (which is quite moderate for any WP site) and none of the plugin scripts were heavy..most very lightweight (not any using All-in-one-SEO with its 2700 lines of code)They not only shut down the server but they removed all files from the directory so I couldn't even do a backup. I checked the monthly bandwidth which was only around 1.2 gigs (about 20 times less than my other main product site with them on a different shared server (baby plan).

I told them to take a hike and refused to install WPcache. I have had issues with that plugin playing havoc with my sites and decided I was better off without it.

IMHO,.. this is all about some exec or tech head at Hostgator deciding to free up space and bandwidth on some specific servers. I wrote and asked them "so WTF happened to your "unlimited" bandwidth and storage policy?" Sure there has to be some upper limit but this is insane.

I havent heard back yet but I told them either immediately reinstate my files and server or pack up my files and send them to me so I can find a new home for them.

Frankly I am totally shocked at this from HG because in 3 years with them they have been great and I have made a bunch of affiliate sales for them (plus dozens more free raps) on the strength of their service. I would have expected this kind of BS from Godaddy or Bluehost but never from Hostgator.
Oh well,... as with anything...times change... and sometimes policies do to.
I'm thinking a change in hosting is on the cards very shortly!
They are totally nuts to be pulling these kind of stunts IMHO.

      Best regards,
      Russell Hall

Same as above on my sites. It is like Host Gator does not want to provide customer service anymore. I think new hosting is in my future too. I lease sites to businesses. I doubt they don't care what HG's problem is just get my site back up.

Any suggestions on a new hosting company? Seems funny everyone had the same issue all at the same time. Yes I have been with HG for years too.

I an not on HG, but my host has a clause in their ToS that indicates the unlimited is for within reasonable limits. When I have seen sites shutdown it doesn't have to do with traffic as much as it has to do with database calls. If you have a script that isn't closing out connections itn burns up resources. By caching the data it isn't making the calls to the database which then lowered the load.

Most hosts are going to limit your resource usage in a shared/reseller environment. Your couple sites could potentially take down the rest of them..
