    Hi Ben,
Just log in to your WordPress admin panel. Go to "SETTINGS" --> "GENERAL". Tick to enable "Membership * Anyone can register". Select Author or Contributor in "New User Default Role".

    Here's the user role details:
Author - Somebody who can publish and manage their own posts
Contributor - Somebody who can write and manage their posts but not publish them

That is an excellent question and one that i was search for that lead me here to this thread.

Security (I am sure) is really a big priority for you and for me too.
I have seen a couple nice plugins that allow guests to add a post right from the guest post page.

Plugins that allow posts form people that are not even registered.

Personally, in the past, I have been using the Wordpress built in registration and posting system only I have created more users and their abilities with the plugin Role Scoper. That way a new user cant see plugins or whatever.

Then, I add more to the registration process with Pie Register.

Lately though, think I want users to stay our of the back end of my site all together. On that note, I am checking out the free plugin: WordPress Guest Post Plugin

I am hoping it will play nicely with my security plugins.

Just Go To The Setting and In general select the option who registered becomes Contributor..so what will happen is ...When someone register to your site will automatically become a contributor of your site ..and The will have access to Posts..And When They Write a Post and Click Publish It will go the the pending and Wait for your clearance ..You check it and publish it that's it...
