After suggestions from people in this forum about redoing my home page and tweaking my SEO on some of my other pages I find myself on page 1 and 2 for many keyword strings on yahoo and google.

However I still find myself with a high bounce rate. Almost all of my highest search rankings are from 3 and 4 word keyword phrases so the people landing on any of my pages should kind of know that the information on the page should be what they are looking for.

But I still have a high bounce rate. I get a lot of clicks from countries that I don't know if they even read English. My site is an italian travel site giving information on a virility of subjects about how to plan an Italian vacation. I kind of look at my site like a baking site, If someone went on a page by asking how to bake a cake when they land there they certainly aren't going to learn how to bake a cake by reading the article for 30 seconds. Chances are they will have to read it to the end in order to learn what they want to learn.

So my problem is how do I get my viewers to stay on my pages long enough for them to realize it is the best site for finding the information they are looking for. How do I present the information better. About 2 of every 10 people stay around for 10 minutes or so and the rest google shows zero time.

As I said I re did my home page based on suggestion from this forum and restructured it but I don't think I could do the same thing with pages that provide all the information that they do. my site is my italian travels dot com. Thanks for any suggestions. Mark

In my opinion, there seems to be too much text on your home page. I would suggest that you read "Anatomy Of A Perfect Landing Page" (Google it, can't post link yet). It's by KISSmetrics.

    Good luck!

Was a nice read but many of the pages people find after doing a search are my main internal pages and I don't think I can make a landing page for all of them. Mark

Simple. Add pictures to your pages.

I looked at your pages and rarely saw a picture. I never read something unless my eyes have something to go along with it. One long page of text is boring and doesn't give the user an ideal experience.

The design in general could use a little work, but I believe it is because you are lacking images. It looks a bit outdated.

Along with bounce rate, are you looking at traffic sources? Are you looking at bounce rate as a whole, or are you looking at it by page? it is possible that you have a bad source that us sending you traffic that is bit not targeted. It is also possible that you have one or two pages that have a higher bounce rate. For example, if one of your pages talks about Italian topless beaches and there aren't pictures, the people getting to that one page may be leaving pretty quickly!

The key is to not get stuck on any one metric. check all of your stays including entry and exit pages.

Without seeing your website its hard to say what improvements you could make. But adding pictures and/or videos if its appropriate to your niche can help to reduce bounce rate problems I have found.

Is your site capable of multiple languages ?..

It might be as people are getting there from other countries are looking for a holiday in italy but can not read your info.. and therefore leave.
