As already mentioned, it depends on whether your theme has an option to upload a header.


If not, then you'll need to modify the theme source code to insert the HTML for the header.



The "best" header size is a size that is appropriate for your theme.


A very ommon header size is 728x90



The smallest you can get away with without sacrificing quality. You will get smaller file sizes with JPG compared to PNG, although PNG images have additional features that JPG don't.


Depends on whether your blog name is important for SEO or not. If so, add it into the image alt description for the header image.

The wordpress theme I have lets you put in a header image. Then off to the side is the OFFICIAL title, with a little description about the site... It is not overpowering...
As far as i know a jpg file is just another file.

To hide your blog title you'll need to change it with image logo or delete the code in header.php. You'll need little known of HTML and PHP.
