If you are a really good on Photoshop then try this software for logo design : Portable Logo Design Studio Pro Vector Edition v1.5 because it has so many good features which can help you to create logo easily. Its a paid version but free lite version is also available.

AAA Logo App is a good software for creating logo. There have many built in template and options for customization. I think you can easily create Logo using that application.

I have seen my friend does very nice and professional logos, as I guess he uses Core Draw for the logo creating purpose. Recently I saw he has done some creative logos for a company by just using circles and triangles. Look so clean and slandered.

Mostly people use Illustrator to design there logo because very easy to use... GIMP is also best option for free..

I use snag-it editor and import multiple images, and with transparency tool, combine them and add different effects to get the final image that I will use. Good idea to save each piece separately on a transparent background, in case you want to use them later.

If you want to add some 3d effects, use one of those box shot programs.

Difficult to recommend just one program, but i found that snag-it for windows and mac were crucial to making the editing easy. Plus it has a screenshot capture program. I suppose on a deeper level, Adobe photoshop or Corel paintshop photo pro is much better as they offer "layers" and other advanced editing. Corel is actually a good "in between" program with a lower learning curve than Adobe, but many of the great editing features.

If you want the "perfect image, usually you would work across several tools, exporting and importing to get just the right combination of what you want.
