I've been using two different methods for backing up files. The first method is WordPress › Duplicator « WordPress Plugins. It's actually more of a clone tool, but it does work great for backups!

Another option is WordPress › WP-DB-Backup « WordPress Plugins. It works well and can schedule automatic backups to be delivered by email.

I prefer using duplicator to backup my sites once a week done manually.

    Best,

    Logan

Duplicator only works up to a maximum of 2GB, so I can't use it on most of my sites which are all authority sites with masses of content..

That limitation is unfortunate for larger established sites and I hope the development team expands this as well. Are you currently performing full manual backups through cPanel?

Been using Duplicator too for backing up and moving my WordPress sites and it has been one of the simplest that I have ever used.

It is not automated, but for me to be able to put a WP site back in place in a few minutes it has been priceless.

I had a couple of sites hacked at my old hosting company and if I was using Duplicator at the time, I would not have had the sleepless night I did. I would have just simply uploaded my backup, enter the install script and put the backup in place.

Duplicator and WP-DB-Backup are free. BackupBuddy costs $75 for two sites, $100 for 10 sites, and $150 for unlimited sites.

If your host does not provide daily, weekly, monthly archives you REALLY need to move your website. Otherwise look into: WordPress › BackWPup « WordPress Plugins

With that free plugin you can set up different jobs to back up files, database, and run optimize processes to keep your website running fast. Can backup on the server or email the backup file to you.

I use wp online backup plugin which has settings to schedule automatic backups however often you want.

I have all sites setup to automatically backup daily and email the backups to a separate email account. This gives me automatic daily backups stored online in my email.

I use BackupBuddy, but you need to renew each year to keep getting updates. Can someone recommend a similar product that is free or you pay just one price?

FTP and phpMyadmin are free. They both do fantastic job when I back up my sites.

@John, slow down with the one-line posts... and read the stickies!

I use vps, bluehost and several others, all of them do backups automatically, you can set up frequency and download with one click. Know, that everybody suggest Backupbuddy, but for me hosting admin panel works better than anything :-)

Backup buddy is a personal favourite.

I also like cloudsafe365. Its a new plugin in the WP directory getting some strong attention and not only backs up your database to the local or dropbox but provides security and content protection features.
