i'm a final year student and i want to make a theme marketplace, where members can upload their designs, or provide links to websites they are working on..i know html and css,but what else do i need to learn?and how will i get people to post their designs?because my site won't be going live(its just for college) and i have no incentives to offer
#website design #make #marketplace #theme
  • how about creating your site using opencart or wordpress with wp-ecommerce plugins?
there will be no money for their design?

    • no i cant do that coz i have to build it from scratch unfortunately..
  • well... beside u need to know html and css, you'll need to know php and mysql too. managing item without database might be trouble you in the future, if u only handle 10 items, i believe you'll have no problem, how about 50 or more?

could be wasting ur time without manage them into a database

    • i've worked on oracle,so i'm good with the database part, but php...thats another story.i find it really tough.what exactly will it be used for in this particular page?and thankyou for ur reply!!
  • And that's the most important question there!

Which should also give you the answer to "what else to learn?"...

MARKETING. You want a "marketplace" (see title) and you want to sell your idea to people.

    • that IS a really important point!but i guess it would be more important if the project actually went live, this is just a school project which i may include in my portfolio, but for now its just going to sit with me on my laptop...but thanks alot for your answer!
  • i didn't know if the most important question is getting the visitor, before he can make the marketplace?
  • u know i must say u guys are really helpful here at warriorforum!!i've asked for help at some other forums too but nobody helped!!guess i'm going to stick around here!!
  • When you say you want to develop a marketplace, it cannot be without money. It is for trade right.

You can create custom post types in wordpress with necessary input fields so that your registered users can upload their themes. Then you need to integrate it with some e-commerce plug-in. The main problem will be sharing the revenue.

you could try the CloneForest script, it lets you start a theme marketplace similar to ThemeForest - and has the multi-vendor capability and revenue sharing etc.
