I recently attempted to list my new web site with yahoo ....

a couple of days later I recieved a phone call from someone claiming to be from Yahoo/Bing asking for £200 ($300) for the listing and wanting credit card details immediately.

After I asked them for some more details in writing before I would proceed they hung up.

Is this real ? do you really have to pay for a yahoo listing, or was I being scammed ?

thanks for taking the time to reply.

I can assure you my friend that my experience described is "true".

My question was ... do you have to pay for a listing in yahoo or was I being scammed ?

It seems strange that the phone call came from someone describing themselves as from Yahoo just a couple of days after submitting my request.

So, I should conclude from your reply that I dont have to pay Yahoo, and that this was just a coincidence ?

It would be great if someone could spare a few more words to advise me one way or the other. I would very much like a Yahoo listing but would prefer not to pay ! and would appreciate some advice.

You do not have to pay.
Yahoo is now part of Bing and you can add your listing in Bing Webmaster tools. If you want a Business listing in Bing like Google maps you will have to add your business to 118. You will get a call of 118 when you add your listing, this is just to check who you say you are. Tell them you only want the FREE listing and you will update when business picks up. It sounds a lot to do but trust me its worth it.
        Good Luck.
