Adding Google Analytics to a WordPress Mobile Website?

So its been a while since I found myself stumped lol but have been trying to get google analytics to work on a mobile website:

www.m.mymobilewebsite.com

Finally realised I have the wrong analytics code on there and have read through so many times the how to on google plus a website I found when "googling it" lol and I have to admit, totally not sure what to do, has anyone else done it, got it working and can provide an easier step by step?

Thanks for any help or insights.

  • Hi Susanne,
Try WordPress › Google Analytics for WordPress « WordPress Plugins.

    Hope this helps.

  • The javascript based Google Analytics only works for mobile devices that actually support javascript - if you want to detect all mobile devices including non smart phones Google Analytics does makes provision for this.

Take a look at the profile you generate for your site in Google Analtics.

Click on the "Admin" menu located in the upper far right corner.

You will be taken to your sites profile - click on the "Tracking Code" tab.

On the "Tracking Code Tab" scroll down a little and you will see the "Advanced Tab" click that and you will be a prompted with the following:

    "What are you tracking?"

If you click on the "A site built for a mobile phone" it will give you TWO PHP code snippets to add to your site and a file called ga.php to download and and add ftp to your site.

Please note it is a little tricky to implement if your a novice to this kinda thing.

The decision to actually implementing this is I guess really depends how detailed you want to get with your Google Analytics reporting.

    • Sorry for the late response guys, thanks so much for your answers and yes I have that code snippet Jay, I am just not sure which bit of the next code - I think it is the ga.php where I need to change from UA to MO - understand that and where to do it but don't know where to replace the URL part, I will have to post the code tomorrow (late here now in the UK) so I can explain myself better.

      Thanks again, Sue
