Online shop business - Getting started

I worked as a Distributor in my local area and have come to the understanding that creating an online solution for purchasing the niche markets needs would be ideal.

I have experience with wordpress and sql previously when running a gaming server however I still have no idea where to start for this venture.

I would like to create or use a professional to create a website which has multiple options for the customer to choose from depending on their environment, each one narrowing down their particular needs which would lead them to a checklist.

Selecting what they need from the checklist, they would then either log in to their account or enter their details to complete the order.

The order would then be sent to the mother company who would pack the items and send them to the customer.

Any advice on what would be the best options,avenues and platforms that would suit this would be greatly appreciated.

    I actually don't know regarding the platform of programming language on which you are willing to work, but you are sure to require a database system in your website, without which your program is not going to work at all. However If you could be more specific regarding the programming platform, then would have been better.

      That's actually my goal in this thread. I have no experience in any programming or web design so I am seeking the best options. I am fairly computer savvy however I understand that what I am after may require a lot of experience and training.

      So my question to everyone is what do you think is best or a good place to start?

    I'm interested too. There are hundreds of e-commerce platforms out there, for both php, asp, etc... Not sure which one is the best to start with, out of the free ones or out of the paid ones.
