How to install Wordpress on an Existing Site

Hey warriors,

I have a client who is in need of a website design but has previously installed a CMS other than Wordpress. I would like to install Wordpress in his root directory and override the old CMS files, but I don't know if this is possible or if it will cause issues.

Has anyone installed a Wordpress website over an exisitng site before? If so how do you delete the old CMS files

    You would be best off removing the previous CMS before installing wordpress. I would suggest backing up the site and having it ready just in case anything goes wrong.

    First, do a database backup using a tool like PhpMyAdmin, then choose the export menu to backup the database to a sql file.

    Delete all files for related to the old CMS, then install WordPress. I suggest you create a new database for WordPress in cPanel for better database organization.

    Ok so just delete the old CMS files, I don't need a backup because there was just a plain CMS installation and nothing else added.

    I just wasn't sure how or which files are ok to delete but I think there is a uninstall option in Simplescripts that I just found.

    Have to delete the old clean, or make a new dir to install the WP

    there is a simple way to remove the old CMS, You have to uninstall the same after taking the backup, and once it done you can install Wordpress there, it will hardly take 30 minute

      Just make sure you make a backup, never want to have the problem when the clients wants to roll back because of money issues etc.
