I was going to suggest the AgentPress child-theme for Genesis. AgentPress Real Estate Theme by StudioPress

Is there something in particular you didn't like about Genesis? What child-theme for Genesis do you use on your other site?

If memory serves, the Agentpress Real Estate theme has a mls search feature. Where I am, I use the Toronto mls system. When I made my current site, the Agentpress theme wouldn't cooperate with my mls system. Perhaps now it would work.

The other thing is that I don't want the focus of this site to be houses, as much as I want it to be about information. Once I've sorted out this site, I will work on a site for showcasing properties, linked to the site we're talking about.

The child theme I use on my other site is called Streamline Theme. If you are curious, I can post the url.

Elegant Themes are super to work with and now most are responsive to mobile devices. As for the "hidden links," Elegant Themes' Nick likes the links to stay, certainly, but I've never seen any hidden code to block uploading without his links. If that's true, just change the link text color to the same color as your footer block...voila invisible!

Hey Tony,

I grew up pretty close to Brampton, in Brantford.

I run a personal finance blog called TimelessFinance, it made the rounds in March cause one of my blog posts ended up featured in Rob Carrick's Reader (The Globe and Mail).

I was really happy with my theme, called rtPanel. It's super lightweight, customizable. It's an extremely "clean" theme but, again, customizable.

For example:

I wanted to be able to add a bunch of widgets to the header (I HATE wasted vertical white space). As you can see, I now have a Google Leaderboard, social buttons, Feedburner form, and search box. I paid the makers of the rtPanel theme, rtCamp, $100 to customize their theme to my needs (and troubleshoot the changes several times to make it stable across browsers). I give away this custom WordPress Child Theme for free now; if you want it, check out my site and, in the top menu bar, click on "Theme".

There are full instructions about where to get the rtPanel theme (parent theme) and then my custom theme that widgetizes the header, etc. (child theme).

Consider trying out the theme as a separate installation of WordPress on your web host-- set up your fixed front page, set up your widgets as you want them, etc. Then, to make the colours and background more attractive (I assume you don't want a site as plain as mine since you're a Realtor) go to the rtCamp Forum (a direct link is on my blog's "Theme" page) and just ask them to customize my child theme to your needs. It's open source, they're really cool guys, and they're trying to grow their business. I'm sure they'd be happy to help.

Two pro-tips about a fresh WordPress install: I would install Better WP Security and Yoast's WordPress SEO. I'd also activate JetPack for the stats, and activate Akismet for the spam prevention.

I second the Estate theme by WooThemes. Their themes are very high quality and their support is amazing.

Here is a few I have tried :

Open House Real estate, available over at Theme Forest, great developer and has always given helping hand when needed.

Gorilla themes has a few themes that look great and easy to customize - WordPress Premium Themes, Real Estate, Celebrity, Travel, Hip Hop and Music themes. | Gorilla Themes - Premium WordPress Themes - Great support here as well!

and as mentioned Elegant themes and the Genesis Templates are awesome.

I have a plugin that does IDX feed and works great with the Genesis theme, no coverage in Canada tho =)

So far my best Optin rate is 14% using the Genesis Theme with my plugin dialed into 3 searches and then visitor has to email and phone number, yep I get phone numbers.

I would target people looking for homes to generate leads then have my autoresponder to send information on Buying home process and or selling a home.

Frankly speaking, your site looks like one of the best for real estate agents I have come across till now. if you are going to work with a partner now, then instead of changing the entire theme, think about changing the name of your site. That may be more useful according to me.

A free wordpress theme does not always serve the purpose. I'd prefer a premium one and hire a theme customizer to modify it for my needs. Have a look at the websites here Weblukka - Listing Websites in Real Estate to get a general idea of what can be done.
