Im currently developing a wordpress initial setup software and would like your help to make it better. This software will optimize your newly created wordpress blog.

Right now this is what the software does:

- Create complete Private Policy, Terms and Conditions, Sitemap, Secured contact us page
- Change permalink
- Change title, description, keywords on the general settings
- Remove hello world blogpost
- Remove default blogroll links
- Add standard categories
- Install and configure essential plugins
- Option to upgrade wordpress and plugins

Essential plugins are:
add-to-any.0.9.9.9.5.zip
akismet.2.5.3.zip
all-in-one-favicon.4.0.zip
all-in-one-seo-pack.zip
backupwordpress.1.6.8.zip
better-wp-security.3.3.zip
broken-link-checker.1.6.2.zip
bulletproof-security.0.47.1.zip
disable-comments.0.5.zip
facebook-comments-plugin.1.2.9.zip
google-analyticator.6.2.zip
google-sitemap-generator.3.2.7.zip
headspace2.zip
login-lockdown.1.5.zip
quick-adsense.1.9.zip
secure-wordpress.zip
seo-image.zip
seo-slugs.zip
si-contact-form.zip
sitemap-generator.zip

    • I will let you add, if possible, Wordpress Ping Optimizer, to avoid continuos submission at pings when you save or your edit your post multiple times.

Then, if I will have other ideas, I will let you know!

Thanks so much and keep all of us updated on your big project!

      See you soon,
      Alessandro Zamboni

  • The words "better" & "optimize" should not be in there with this laundry list of plugins.

WAY too many plugins, and I wouldn't be surprised if having all that junk installed actually makes your installation even more vulnerable. 90% of the Wordpress security problems we fix are due to having tons of un-needed plugins.

    • Thanks for the input guys.. Will consider your suggestions..

Thanks bud. Yes Im thinking the same way.. I found those plugins from "Top plugins" blogposts in google and thinking this is what the users needed. But I will give the users the option to add or remove plugins before setting up.

      Thanks
  • quite a soup of plugins you have there, my friend. I am no WP guru, but aren't there compatibility issues rising with so many plugins ? Just wondering.
    Best of luck, of course.

    • Hi Bryan, Yes there is but all these plugins are tested and so far they're not conflicting each other..

Yes I agree the list is big. I will trim it down and finalize which plugins deserve to be in the initial setup.

      Thanks

  • At first I was thinking...wow, way to many plugins. Then when you said that the person would have the option of using them or not, I breathed easier. If you are designing a piece of software to automate wordpress set up, my suggestion is to just pick a few plugins that you know work together and use them only. You have a great idea though. Keep up the good work.
  • Make sure that your plugins are still actively developed. I noticed that Login LockDown hasn't been updated in over two years. That might create compatibility issues, either now or in the future.

You might also consider removing the default Log In link in the footer to make it a bit more secure, if those other plugins don't already.
  • Good list, i have always used contact form 7 for the contact page, only because I find that simpler than the other forms to be used.

    • Thanks. Just removed login lockdown..

Just added disable password reset plugin also.

Thats my original plan to add contactform7 but the other plugin included is more powerful and already have captcha system.
  • Please include Socializer NOT Sociable. No idea why the latter is so popular. Socializer's backend lets you do an "easy" customization OR use an awesome short code editor. Sociable is just a mess on the backend.

Socializer's skyscraper works and looks great in all the popular browsers. Sociable is a disaster in IE9 -- doesn't even float properly.

I put all of the "+1" buttons in the side bar of each post. Since it floats, people can decide at any point to "Like" it. Then, the bar of share buttons stays at the bottom. It looks much better; standard-sized icons.

  • 2 must have plugins are Commentluv and WWSGD (What Would Seth Godin Do) and then I would advize you to make your software, so that people can add their own plugins and themes

  • Guys the software is nearly done. Please check the demo video here WPsetupOptimizer Demo - YouTube
Let me know what you think..
  • This sounds very interesting, but the users should be able to pick and choose what they want to install. Instead of having that many plugins installed at once.
There was a similar plugin I used but it activates all plugins at once and it broke my site. Luckily it was a new installation of WordPress.
