I am trying to figure out how to create a sitemap that will be indexed by googles webmaster tools. I get an error of "html is not supported" or something similar to that. 99% of my sites are all WP themes and one is built using cpanel. I use the sitemap plugins available but they don't seem to be indexing to webmaster tools.

Could someone point me in the right direction on how to manually create sitemaps?

Thank you.

Well, based on the GWT error message you are apparently trying to submit a HTML sitemap URL in Google Webmaster Tools (?) which you can't.

(Just in case you were trying to submit a HTML sitemap, check this article to learn the diffnerences between sitemap file kinds. It has both code examples and explanations.)

You can fix the error using some menu in your google webmaster tools, and try to fix in your site script code.

I agree. Just go to this website, put in your URL, download the un-compressed XML Sitemap (sitemap.xml file), upload it to your root file on your websites server, then go to "your website goes here.sitemap.xml" to test the upload. Once you confirm the upload was successful, submit your sitemap to Google and other search engines (such as Bing).
