Please explain how this is done

This is a site done on the Genesis Lifestyle theme.

The Fun Times Guide - New And Creative Ways To Do Everything Under The Sun!

When you click on one of the categories at the top, such as "Home & Garden" and go to a topic, such as "Dogs", it almost seems to go to a completely separate site with all the dog categories now at the top. (I hope I'm making this clear.) I can't determine how this is set up. Can anyone explain, please?

  • When you clink the link ("dogs"), it takes you to a subdomain. More than likely they have another template or static page set up on the subdomain, which would allow all of the links to change. Does that make sense?

    • Just had a look and from what I can see thats exactly how they've got it setup. Under each sub-domain you have a unique wordpress installation.

  • It's pretty simple, just create a subdomain for your domain name, and then upload the exact same template to the subdomain that you use for your domain name. Then just change the top navigation menu for the template located on your subdomain.
  • It's actually pretty simple to do. The site is a 'network' using WordPress as the backbone.
