I upgraded the web editor I use to there new version that makes it easy to make mobile pages and sites. The thing I don't understand is if I search for a site on a phone or tablet how would any website know which device the people are viewing the site on and know which version to show them. Is that something the web hosting company does. I have no idea.

    When someone accesses your site, they make an HTTP request, which contains information like their OS and web browser. This is information is stored in a variable server-side for scripts to access and present the page in the appropriate format (mobile, standard, whatever.)
