Best Free SEO and Security Plug-Ins for Wordpress?

Hi everyone,

To be honest not much to add from the thread title . I was curious as to what the best plug-ins are for SEO and for security. Ideally they would be free, but I don't mind paying a little if I can reuse them on clients websites.

I haven't really done any SEO (though I understand the principles), so if anyone has a few mins, could someone please tell me how the plug-in helps with SEO and how effective that is?

Thanks guys!

SEO is more than just a plugin, unfortunately..!

Plugins can help by making it easier to add META titles, descriptions and keywords, fine-tune the noindex settings on your site, create sitemaps and so on, but SEO is also about content, content structure, good coding on your sites and, on WordPress sites, disciplined use of categories and tags.

The same goes for security - website security is as much about a mindset as anything. Plugins can fulfill some functions, but they are not a silver bullet.

This article goes through some basic on-site SEO steps you can take, and there are some SEO plugins linked to in it:

And the second part of this article goes through some security steps you should be taking - about half way down under the heading 'How do I prevent my site being compromised again':

I just recently installed the Wordfence security plugin (free), which is doing a great job for me, and wrote about it here:

    Hopefully those articles will help.

    Cheers,

    Martin.

I always use the All in One SEO plug-in. It's not a cure all, but it is free and helps a lot. I highly recommend Google XML Sitemaps as well. I NEVER build a site without those two plug-ins.

Can you use more than one SEO program on a page and will it help you get ranked better if you do use more than 1 or 2?

You'll not likely help, and it might hurt. You'll end up appearing spammy with duplication of things in the header, and also might break something internal to wordpress.

I use Yoast's WordPress SEO and All-In-One SEO Pack.

All-In-One SEO Pack is the most popular SEO plugin, but Yoast's plugin adds a lot of nice features and offers SEO advice in the Post and Page editor.

All in One is the best....It has a number of other on-page setting and options that All in One lacks, which gives you more control for each and every page you create.

A brief SEO will do more than a plugin coz plugin has their limitations where SEO tricks and codes having much wider length and width in comparison to those plugins thts why plugins have to be upgraded and complete seo of a website will help you more than any lil script or plugin.

  • With the help of plug ins you can do on page SEO but what about off page SEO? You will need to build links to rank. For on page SEO you can use All in one SEO pack.
