Hi,

I was using a template for my free hosting company (check the signature for the link, as I am not able to posts links yet), but now I am considering to upgrade it to something new, more new-looking. But not sure if I should hire a designer to create it or buy a new theme. Any suggestions would be very appreciated.

How experienced in web design are you?

Do you have a budget for a web designer?

Are you working with a CMS (content management system)? WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, etc? Or a proprietary one provided by your host?

If your experience is somewhat lacking in that area you will probably save yourself some time and headache to hire it out.

If you have the option to install WordPress from your host, or you can figure it out, that will be your best bet to get started on your own pretty quickly.

There are plenty of free WordPress themes around that are highly customize-able, as well as tons of paid ones that range from $45-100.

Web design is my day job, so you have anymore questions let me know and I'll try and help.

Hi, thanks for your reply. I am experienced with the design, but I am not really a guy who can create a good looking site - I can only say which is good Also, I am currently using no CMS just plain files. However, I would love to use some CMS on the new design, maybe wordpress or joomla - not sure which is best.

Anyway, would you suggest on buying a new template or getting a designer to create a totally custom one for my company?

lol well since that is my profession, I would always suggest going with a professional designer

But making the decision between a template and a professional designer really just depend on what your budget is, and how comfortable you are with theme customization.

I would say you would be best to go with the new "webby 2.0" styling for the site though, something really eye-catching that just screams "professional design"

As far as Joomla versus WordPress, if it's JUST a simple site definitely go with WordPress. If you're going to need higher functions like super involved customer accounts I would actually go with Drupal versus Joomla. That is if you're looking for an open source CMS, there are numerous closed source solutions as well...but ultimately it just depends on where you want to be.

Typically with our clients when we sit down with them for the first time, pretty early on in the conversation we go over what their goals are. Once we know where they want to be, we will work up an individualized solution to get them there.

I think the site looks alright. On a side note, I do find it strange that your site says "over 50K websites" and since 2006 when the domain was registered in 2011, and there are no posts in the forum.....seems kind of odd that with claiming that many sites...

Thank you all for the replies. As for the 2006 and 50k clients - it is correct, as we where working on different domain name earlier. Also, 50k clients are not so much for the free hosting because it is free - so everyone likes to sign up

As for the design, I know I need a designer for it, but not sure if it is possible to reach good deal buying design on the internet versus real contact with person who creates sites.

ArcherWylde, could you tell me the average prices for "webby 2.0" good site?

For the most part my company does corporate web sites. Working through my firm our completely custom sites range in price from $2500 - $10,000+ depending on the amount of time and content involved to get these sites set up.

Modified theme sites are a bit cheaper because we really try and work with our clients to meet their budget for the specific project.

    Hi Bro,
I think you need to hire a professional Web designer to design your site.
premium theme can't be 100% exactly what you are looking for.
Also I would suggest wordpress as CMS for your site.
    Thanks
