One of the most debated topics I have seen around is whether or not to allow users to comment on certain posts or things on your website. What do you guys think about this? Should it be allowed?

In my opinion comments require moderation and alot of time to monitor. On the other hand it allows users to give direct feedback on what you post and allows you to address their concerns. There are two sides to it.

On my own website I have opted to disallow comments on certain areas.

What's your view? Should comments be allowed?

I want to hear all your views. Please share them.

I suppose it would depend on your goals for your website. If you are selling something, you will want to encourage visitor engagement. Also, if your goal is to drive more traffic to the property, then you will also want to encourage visitor engagement. In my opinion, having to spend a lot of time moderating comments is a good problem to have. This means your content is engaging and that your rankings in SERP’s are only increasing with each comment that is left.

It would seem that unless you have a page that is purely for informative purposes and it will never change, this would be the only reason you wouldn’t need comments. The very nature of a blog is to invite conversation. I can’t see any reason why you would want to not allow commenting.

    Hi,

Yes, allow comments, always moderated and with the right antispam stuff installed so that you don't waste time moderating junk. It's almost expected that you be able to comment when you are visiting a page.

I would say allow comments if you have the time to moderate them. I prefer not to allow comments as I don't have the time to moderate my blog, plus my other 2 forums on top of it.

So I just stick to moderating my forums, and disallow comments on the blog.
