i'm just starting to make my first website with wordpress. the link is this: http://www.jed-media.com/

the things which i would like to do to it include:

removing the square box on the right of the screen. unless it is useful because i don't know what it's for.

how do i take the uncategorised button of my website?

where is the button where i can find out if some pages allow comments and which pages don't.

also i don't know what i want to do to start this website, what i mean is like an introduction it's going to be my photography portfolio.

what SEO things should do like meta tags? i'm a noob at SEO. same with SEO for my blog.

thanks

No criticism intended, I'm just trying to help..

Maybe you should start by reading the WP Codex: WordPress Lessons « WordPress Codex This contains answers to most Wordpress questions, other than any that are theme specific.

Answering the questions you've listed would involve pages of writing. Take it one step at a time and begin at the beginning.

The way you sound it seems it is going to be very difficult for you to customize the blog.
The best would be you spent some days understanding how WP themes work, or you can get it customized by a professional. I have developed several WP themes but answering your questions will take a lot of time and I'm not sure whether you'll follow the instructions.

You can type customize wordpress theme in YouTube search box and hit the enter..There are dozens of tutorial videos to help you out.

first you need to go to your dashboard where you can change settings and edit things on your site. Go there by typing yoursite name/wp-admin. Then enter your username and password. I agree with some of the other posters here. You need to got up to speed on using wordpress. You can find just about any information you want to know by looking in Google or Youtube for the answer.

I guess that you could start by checking out the preview of you theme, then it would be clear for you what exactly should be at those places which you do not understand at the moment.

I checked the site where is your theme sold, so the box you want to remove is the place where would appear your Recent posts, so I do not think that you should remove it all ... simply make some posts and you will see there adding headlines of your posts ...

Next about uncategorised button, you can remove it by making your own menu ... you can find it at the left sidebar of your wp admin area, Appearance -->Menus there you will be able to create completely new menu or edit existing one. Also this is a place where you can remove that link to the category - uncategorised.

About starting this site - if you want to make an introduction you can make one and can place it as your home page.

Talking about SEO thins, it's probably a little harder to explain you all just in one post, you can start by urls that includes your keywords, next adding title tags, descriptions, keyword tags. Of course, you include keywords in your posts, just don't overdo that as Google might not like it.

I'm not sure did I answered your questions I just can add that you will learn everything you need to know simply by doing it. Start with adding some posts then it will be easier for you to understand how your blog really looks like, as for now it's even a little hard as you do not have any content there, only the menu ...

Later you will find out more about plugins that will help you to do many things with your blog, including some of SEO as well. Just go step by step!

Yes just go to title › Log In and login this will give you your dashboard. Spend some time with the dashboard the more time you spend there the better you will understand what everything is and how it works.

OK for what ever reason the forum software insist on changing the url to that weird text. The url is in fact "http://jed-media.com/wp-admin" that is the login for your Wordpress Site.

I tend to be gung-ho when learning new things, so my advice is to go into the admin section, make changes, realize it's broken, re-upload the theme, rinse and repeat. After a while, you'll figure out which buttons do what.

On the other hand, you can google for Starting a Wordpress Site Tutorial. You should get plenty of results.

As for not knowing what you want to do with the site, if it's your portfolio all you really need is an "About Me" page for the front page, and a portfolio page to show your work.

Agreed, I went through attempting to set up my site 2 or 3 different times before I started learning what goes where, then things start to fall into place for you. But you need to accept that there is generally a lot of filling in of pages/posts and reworking of everything, while you are tackling the learning curve.

I believe for starter, it's best to have google as your mentor and everything.

      I hope this GAMEPLAN helps:

      1. PLAN (know your goals & objectives)
      2. PREPARE (get your tools -domain,hosting,wptheme -some wp knowledge too!etc.)
      3. PROCESS (put your site together)
      4. PROMOTE (then you can ask what SEO is all about)

      Cheers!

      By far...
Google can fix just about anything, just make sure you back up everything so you can learn, rinse and repeat

Before you jump into WordPress website design, you should look for some basic / advanced video tutorials which are freely available around the internet. After you finish basic, you can search different queries on Google and will surely get some video tutorials or articles with brief explanation.

looks like you have a nice learning curve ahead of you, my friend.
but don't get discourages, everyone here went on a similar path ...

From my side, I would suggest that you install Firefox,
then add the Firebug add-on to it. Homepage here:
    getfirebug.com
This is a free but indispensable tool (for me at least)
to debug my web pages ...

So with your FF+Firebug and a good tutorial on html, css, wordpress, php
you're good for a few weeks of exciting learning.
And in case you get stuck always remember: Google is your friend!

    good luck!

Any question you have about WP has been answered SOMEWHERE via a search engine search. Also, look for video tutorials.

So I looked at it. And I think it's weird that you're company pitch is Wordpress websites when you do not know how to do these things yourself. So my suggestion is learn.

Next, try a theme that is specifically for portfolios. It would make building your site easier to have a base to work from. No need to reinvent the wheel. For hat you're doing, the theme that is up now isn't best for several reasons. The primary reason is color. It's soft and cool. You want to go with neutral colors with a splash of hot pizzaz. Secondary is feel. It's fuzzy. You may want to consider something less comforting.

Photography portfolios are often black and white with 2-3 accent colors. That is what looks most professional.

For Wordpress site development, you should have a site that looks neutral, contemporary and fun.

    Best of luck.

And to answer your questions, all those options are in the admin area.
