Wondering how I can renew a wordpress site

Hi,

I'm going to develop a new design for our blog in wordpress, and I'm wondering what the best solution is to do this. Eventually it should be placed on the root domain without downtime or just a little bit of downtime. I'm not intending to build the design from scratch on the root domain, because this can take a while.

Is there somebody who's having some experience with this? I've tried a plugin which can backup your wordpress website and recover it on another domain. Unfortunately this plugin doesn't work.

    Hi, there

    If I understand you correctly you want to change the design of your blog by adding a new theme? And you want to know how to make a local copy of your live website on your computer so you can develop and test the new theme without interfering with the main site? Then when it's ready - upload it to your server and switch to the new theme?

    You'll need to install a web server on your home computer, if you don't have one already. You can look up XAMPP, for example.

    And the WordPress codex site has nice instructions on how to copy/move your blog: Moving WordPress « WordPress Codex

    Once you have a copy of your blog running locally you can tweak your new theme to your heart's content. And when it's ready, just upload it to the server and activate it without any downtime.

      Easiest way is to backup your site with a plugin like duplicator.

      Its free and allows you to move sites between domains.

      Just search for it within wordpress plugins. I use it all the time.

      You can use it to download to your local machine using WAMP or one of the local web servers.
