Who would you register domain's with? I see prices all over the place. I was going to use 1and1 but I am thinking of giving hostgator a shot to host.

    Both 1&1 and Hostgator are reputable companies. Domains are very cheap now so don't waste too much time choosing a registrar, you'll be fine with either of these.

        Those are reputable companies, so there shouldn't be much trouble.

        Your next step is to get a good hosting provider. Some "good" domain name registrars may not be "good" hosting providers. So, be very careful.

          I prefer to use GoDaddy because of the price and reliability. I have a reseller account at PDM Web Hosting where I set the prices at the lowest GoDaddy allows. A lot of the prices are cheaper than GoDaddy sells them for.

    I would recommend if you are going to take a major dive into domain buying to get your own reseller account. I have a reseller with WildWest aka GoDaddy, set my own rates and have several hundreds clients.
    I wouldn't recommend ever getting a domain name with the host, it can be a nightmare to get ownership and name transferred when you do move your hosting

        Namecheap are the guys I would go with - in fact I have registered
        a few domains with them.

        I started with Godaddy (about 13 domains) and then I read a mind
        numbing report from Mike Filsaime about his experience with Godaddy
        and I immediately changed to Namecheap.

              I suggest goDaddy.com. It is cheaper than the one suggested to me before. I had been using it for 3 years now and never had a problem with it. They always send alert or notices whenever your site is up for renewals. So you won’t forget to renew any of your domain names.

                I've used NameCheap.com for about 100 domains, never had a problem. Mike Filsaime had quite an experience with GoDaddy - which I won't repeat here - and advises his readers to stay away from them because of actions they took with his site.

                  I use Namecheap to register domains and Hostgator
                  as a host for MANY but not all of my sites. I dislike
                  having all my eggs in one basket. (Can anyone say
                  Registerfly three times fast). I have a couple of sites
                  that are visable in China. The Chinese gevernment has
                  currently blocked Hostgator sites. Who knows why.
                  Next week it'll be somebody else. It pays to keep up
                  on hosts and registrars both. Stay flexible.

                    My vote is for namecheap for registering, as GoDaddy's interface is far more clunky than it needs to be and MediaTemple for web hosting.

                      I 2nd that! Godaddy looks so crowded with several of their offers.. I didnt stay on their page for more than a minute.. I have several of my domains with namecheap.com and they have been great all these years... Dynadot is another provider i have some domains with .. and they have been great too...
