Most people here will tell you WordPress - even though it's not my personal choice. You need to define what it is exactly you want to do, if it's just a quick, easy and not really important site, then go for it. If you want to build something more serious and have a little bit of time to learn, then read my latest e-book. Whatever you do, don't go for Blogger or wordpress.com, always use a self-hosted solution with your own domain.

I use Wordpress mostly but Blogger and other platforms are fine depending on your needs. For instance, Blogger has the benefit of a pre-established community. Google finds it in blog search faster. You can follow other blogger blogs and in turn, the authors often find you in return. It's good for networking. Wordpress allows deep customization (self-hosted) and you only have to deal with your HOSTS terms of service, Google is much stricter usually.

I say word press all the way, but I say blogger is a little more basic for a newbie if you want to put your feet in the water.

there are many quality blogs in the market with blogger. you can also go for that. it is google's blogging service, which is very reliable for the google itself.

If you are just getting started and don't have any money to invest, you can always go for blogspot.

All you need is a gmail account since this is owned by Google.

If you have some money to spend, then the more professional (and controlled) way would be to get:

1. Domain name
2. Hosting account
3. Install wordpress
4. Publish (at least) 5 posts
5. Start adding Adsense (no more than three units per page).

Another vote for wordpress...not only is it a great blogging platform but you can post easily from an android or iphone and you can upscale the site to a more professional site later on if you need to.
