NextGen Gallery shortcode not working

Hi,

I have recently migrated my site to a different domain using backup buddy. After migrating the site I had to reinstall the NextGen Gallery plugin on the new domain as it didn't appear after the migration. I then uploaded my photos again in exactly the same way I did on the original domain and then added the shortcode into the page I wanted the gallery to appear.

For some reason though, when I view the page, I get a message where the gallery should be saying 'sorry, but you are looking for something that isn't here'. The gallery doesn't show so it seems the shortcode isn't working.

Its strange because I am also using the NextGen gallery as a widget in my footer and the gallery is showing here.

Does anyone know what the problem could be here?

Thanks,
Will

  • It sounds like you may have a permalinks issue. Go to "Settings > Permalinks" and click "Save changes". This will force a rewrite of your URLs in the WordPress database.

I find that this resolves most issues with "page not found" type errors.

  • Must mean there a conflict in your code when the browser is outputting.

Make sure you aren't using any cache plugins, if so disable it or re-cache the site
Make sure you are using the same version gallery plugin
Disable your gallery plugin and re-able it
    Check Permalinks

Recheck the site after each of the above is done. If still not working disble all plugins excpect the gallery one and re-check. If it works now start to enable 1 plugin at a time and check to find if a plugin conflict. If all the above doesnt fix it then would have to check your code

  • Thanks for the replies. I have tried all of the above suggestions but it still hasn't worked unfortunately.

I have even tried using a different gallery plugin which used a shortcode as well but this didn't work either. Its weird that I am using a shortcode for my contact form (on a different page) and this is working fine but for some reason shortcodes don't seem to want to work on the particular page I'm having problems with.
  • I should have time later today if the problem still exist to look into this

  • Its ok mate, I have re-run the migration and there wasnt any probelms this time...strange. But thanks for the offer though!
  • Nice .. so its fixed ?
  • It was but now I am getting the error message again ('sorry, but you are looking for something that isn't here').

I have gone through everything that I am doing that might affect it and its when I change the permalinks from 'day and name' to 'post name'. As soon as I change this setting I get the message. Why does it do this?

I suppose I am just going to have to leave the permalinks as 'day and name'?
  • Which one are you taling about the one that we did together or a different one. Hit me up on Skype.
