Normal for uploading to take so long?

Hi,

When I download from my server it takes only seconds to download say a 2mb folder of files - a phpbb forum install for instance.

However, when I try uploading the same 2mb folder of files it takes 5minutes and even more.

Is this usual?

Surely this isn´t just because of the upload vs download speed? I am using Filezilla for the transfers as I believe that Dreamweaver does upload slower than a dedicated FTP program.

    Yes, it is upload vs download speed of your ISP. Usually your upload speed is considerably slower than download.

    Honestly, on most connections, an 2MB upload taking 5 minutes is definitely a little strange.

    But, to add mgreener's response - not only does the speed of your own ISP affect these speeds, but you mentioned 'my server' which makes me think that you're talking about files on your own web server - in this case, you need to take your web hosts speed into account as well. A lot of hosts will offer fast downloads with a little slower uploads.

    So, yes, I think that this situation is a little strange. Sounds like you might have some kind of interference with your uploads.

      Ok. I am going to check with my host, see what they say about speed - No doubt they will say they´ve got the fastest upload on the planet and its my problem lol.

      Have to agree with what you said though Noah, 5mins for a 2mb file seems very slow to me, although it was a 2mb folder rather than a 2mb file - a 2mb folder of a lot of individual files, a phpbb forum folder - I guess that will take longer than one individual file too.
