Hi warriors

I need a couple of jobs doing for my website and blog and wanted a quote for the work.

I need the following:

1. Navigation links doing on one of my websites inc buttons and then shaded area below it so that it fits in with the current theme. I paid out for a mini site recently and he disappeared without finishing the job.

2. Ive just picked up a new blog theme that i like but im terrible at altering them and it would take me hours & hours i just need the logo title changing, the banners adding inc the links set up so that it will allow the reader the chance to click through to my sites and finally the banner changing on the top of the page.

If anyone can help with this kind of thing please email with a quote etc to info@dsm-publishing.com

kind regards

sam

    DSM,

I am not 100% sure what you need done. I would like to provide you with an estimate, but could you please add some additional details about what you need done.

sorry i was a bit basic with my post:

the website is www.dsm-publishing.co.uk and the navigation links are so ugly and i wanted the same wording on them but it done in a nicer, smaller font and a nice shade carrying it down to the bottom the page like a background colour.

For the blog theme ive got the theme at www.myeasyonlinepay.com/reviews

and if you look at the design i need the banners placed in it, i have a photoshop file and i need the name changing to my biz name, a banner onto the header changing and the links working for those banners.

Even though the average person could do this in photoshop pretty quickly i have problems with photoshop due to disability probs and dont have photoshop.

I have the banners/images ready i would email them to you and you could change the style sheet accordingly.

    Sam,

Thanks for the explanation. I will work up what I think needs to be done and get an estimate over to you just as soon as I can.

    Thanks

    Hi Sam,

whatever else you do on your two sites above (and any others) you need also to check them out for W3C validation. Currently there are 29 errors and 2 warnings on dsm-publishing.co.uk page and 11 Errors, 11 warning(s) on your myeasyonlinepay.com/reviews page. The home page for that site also has 21 errors.

Don't panic though as I suspect that many of the errors that you have relate to the first one for each page. If you know how to code basic HTML then visit the W3C validation site: validator.w3.org to check out the errors for yourself and make the first change recommended in each case. Then revalidate just to see what amount of improvement that has made.

Many people fail dismally to check their pages and rely solely on "well it looks OK to me" whilst ONLY ever using the one browser they should NEVER use as a primary checker i.e. Microsoft's IE (version is immaterial NONE of them properly display totally valid compliant code ALL of the time). You are not alone in having non compliant pages - Twitter's home page alone has 10 errors and others of their pages have many more.

Always use a Mozilla-based browser (or other standards compliant one - IE does NOT comply with the standards) as your primary browser, ensure your code validates first, THEN make any necessary allowance for the brokenness of IE and ensure it still validates afterwards.

Am I somewhat bigoted in this regard? Well possibly, however consider these points:

    1. IE is NO longer the dominant browser it once was - now less than 50% market share and declining rapidly according to some recent figures I saw (43%).
    2. Firefox is catching up fast (34%)
    3. Google Chrome is also attracting a lot of users and of course Safari and Opera are other significant players in the game. Together the above 4 are all standards-based and compliant and represent around 49% of the market overall.
    4. New Android and iPhone models from HTC, Nokia, Apple together with massively increasing mobile browsing usage will rapidly increase the share of Mozilla or Webkit based standards-compliant browsers

With all those points and many more I could mention, do you want to risk potential loss of profits due to "broken" web pages in those browsers preventing your visitors from seeing your offers properly?

Interesting little aside: has ANYONE found a SINGLE MS web page that passes the W3C validation test? I haven't and frankly it's a bit of a disgrace with them being a Platinum member of the W3C no less!

    Good luck.

    Best regards, Bob Lewis
