I have this website template I'm working on:
a cool site

At the bottom you'll see this thin grey bar just sitting there. Can someone please tell me how to correct that? Thanks?

  • I could tell you how to get rid of that space at the bottom, but that will only be a "band-aid" solution to a much larger problem.

Your main problem here is that you are using old, deprecated HTML code, and you are using tables for layout (both of which are bad). The optimal solution would be to start from scratch and learn modern HTML (either HTML5, or XHTML). And use CSS for layout (instead of tables). Doing that will make your site FAR more standards-compliant, meaning that it will look and function much more consistently across various browsers.

But if you just want the "band-aid" solution to the trainwreck (sorry for being so blunt, lol :p), then get rid of the <p> tags surrounding the btm.jpg image. By default, the <p> element has a little bit of margin around it, which is the cause of the undesired space there.

    • Thanks I kinda figured out that it was sitting as just an image, it should have been a background in a new table.

Ya what you're talking about is a funny story.... I learned html pretty decent, not great but workable. Then all these gazillion other new things came up. And for a while I actually kinda thought "ahh what I know is way too old school". but then it dawned on me that it really doesn't matter much. most people are looking at the body of the car and or driving it, they're not looking under the hood, and if they are they can't tell an intake manifold from a radiator. So they don't care about that either. All it has to do is "work". So I realized my skills are still actually "extremely valuable". So thats kinda my progression as a web designer over many years. Kinda sucks though. I had big success online for like 10 years. But then the site kinda fell apart. Thats' a long story. So now I'm starting over again from scratch. But I just launched the new site. And will be taking paypal by next week so I'm super excited! Wish me luck ok
