Got my Web hosting.

Hey all,

Okay so I got my web-site host (hostgator). I'm in my cPanel and I can not help but wonder, how the hell do I design my actual web page?

There doesn't seem to be any icons to allow me to access my main domain. What am I missing?

  • There's a number of different ways, including:

    1. Installing WordPress
    2. Using the File Manager to upload your HTML files
    3. Using FTP (or FTP within your Web Authoring Tool) to upload your files
  • Well, being logged in to the cPanel - you ARE accessing your own domain's backend. What else did you expect?

    And no, having a hosting account doesn't mean you have some "magic" gizmo that would design your site!

    You can install a CMS (content management system) or a blogging tool or other scripts - most cPanels have a section called Fantastico - but they will still not 'design' your site. They will create a skeleton for a site that you need to fill in with content (text, images etc.) but nothing will ever design anything for you.

    Or, maybe you are not clear about the meaning of "designing a web site"... It is the process where the layout, colours, fonts etc. are chosen and executed by coding.
  • In addition to what Istvan said above, I think you need to start from the bottom and first understand what cpanel is, how websites are made, prepare a draft of what you exactly want that site for, and finally how to get everything together.
  • Never mind people. I found a heap of videos explaining everything I needed to know.
