Thesis Theme(Customized) vs Premium Video Theme

Give me you opinion.

I'm creating a new site that will mainly use video(self-created). I'm a fan of the Thesis framework but don't know if it's worth completely customizing it for video versus purchasing a Premium Video theme from Themeforest or somewhere else.

I was thinking of going the premium video site theme to get the site started, then after the site has begun to gain traction, switch over to a customized Thesis skin or layout.

Or am I overlooking something, or do you think I've run into some problems when switching over down the road and I should just start with the theme that I want to eventually end up with?

Keep in mind, this is a brand new site, so I don't want to sink a lot of money in it yet, until its a little more proven.

Please give me your 2 cents on this, I would greatly appreciate it.

Get the video theme which will allow you to move forward quickly with the least resistance. You can refine or switch (if you feel it's necessary) in the future.

I'll agree with what mrgreener said, but want to add a little.
A good video theme certainly is the easiest, fastest route to go...
    However......
This assumes the theme is properly coded.

There is a TON of junk themes out there, even on themeforest.
Many look great and even function pretty good, but are riddled with poor coding practices, deprecated functions, improper implementation of assets (css, js, etc).
    And...
You'll find many authors on sites like themeforest are new developers trying to make their "break" into the design world. Nothing wrong with this if their coding is awesome, but that's not always the case.

Having said that, if your on themeforest, pay attention not just to ratings, but feedback and comments.
You can also just go right to a developer that has proven good coding like Genesis, Woothemes, and others.
Thesis is exceptionally well coded, but definitely not turn-key, you will spend more money getting started with this, but your foundation will be solid.
The biggest issues with switching themes down the road will be shortcodes. All built in shortcodes in the theme (most themeforest themes), will be dead when the theme is deactivated.
Shortcodes should be kept in a plugin not a theme so they are transferred easily.
You might be better with a Genesis or Woothemes type framework and I think they both have video themes. This will make future theme switching pretty easy as long as you keep the framework and either build or change to a different child theme.

    Good Luck!
