Fellow Warriors!

I am a beginning WP User. I SEE SO MANY different themes and companies producing themes that i don't know where to begin.

The following companies all sell themes.

  • Themeforest
  • Woothemes
  • Genisis
  • flexsqueeze
  • Optimize Press
Is there one good Theme Company to start with...that will satisfy most needs?

I am looking to build
  • Landing Pages
  • some websites for my friends (in business), and
  • small businesses in my neighborhood.
Which Company or Theme would be Best for my needs---based on above?

Thanks for your Constructive input!

I'd say most can be done with free themes. Inside the WP back-end you can alter a free theme to be ANYTHING you want, so even if they don't have it listed, doesn't mean you can't make it.

Also, if you find a paid theme you MUST HAVE then do a little research and see if you can A) get the best pricing on it and B) be sure it's not something you can create yourself.

I'm not sure your experience level with anything so some of these answers may jump too far into the technical side of things for you. If so just stick to free themes and again, if you must have a paid one make sure to check reviews of it and if there's better pricing anywhere.

    Hope this helps

      Thanks L,

QUESTION; I know that some of these Themes can be gotten for free...BUT how can you get better pricing than the Vendor (lets say Themeforest)?

No there isn't. Because they don't know their specific needs... unless you tell them, which would be a custom theme then.

And you should know better if you are making websites for others: there is no one size fits all.

E.g. Landing page is a very vague definition: anything where a visitor arrives is a "landing" page - they just landed there :p
It could be an optin page, a sales page, a blog post and your thread here...

Furthermore, if you don't talk with the business owners to find out their specific needs for their own business, you are NOT doing them a service, quite the contrary, a huge disservice... by applying a generic theme to their website.

I always feel sorry for all those offline brick and mortar business owners that are approached by ignorant wannabe "webmasters" and IMers...

There will be different answers to this question because of different preferences and situations. As for me personally, I love WooThemes and I consider their themes as the best Wordpress themes. I say so because they look very neat and professional, easy to use, and they have a great support.

    Hey thanks guys!

Like i said (in my original post....although someone didn't read that part)....i'm a beginner with WP. Most of the Biz owners i run into....are looking to improve sales....and therefore a Landing Page would be one that Prompts the visitor to either
    • pick up the phone and call
    • fill out a form and hit submit
And then...a Website that has good information and pleasing to the eye. One that encourages the visitor to call. That's it. First step is a phone call (in most cases).

A restaurant owner will want a customer to come by and eat...but in most cases a phone call is wanted.
