Hi,

I have a problem with a wordpress installation I'm testing before deploying it. It's online but looks like its from 1999 when images on the net didn't exist!! Please help!

Details:
- Wordpress 3.5
- Theme: Balita
- Suspects: WP e-Commerce plugin
- Website www.balita.cooltoyz.info with plugin enabled and www.balita2.cooltoyz.info with plugin disabled.

Issue:
This theme only seems to complete the set up when you activate the WP e-commerce plugin. When I first installed (before I installed the plugin) the theme it showed up properly (by that I mean looked as it looked in wordpress when logged in - see balita2).

Once I activated the plugin it looked fine with the preview when logged in to wordpress (complete website as I would want my customer to see it) but when I logged out to view the site it came up as a txt site (see balita link).

I can't work out why?! But it seems to be something with the plugin. I've tried other ecommerce plugin but they dont seem to work and the site looks like balita2 link.

Can anyone help?

Nick

Hey. It looks like your CSS file is blank on the Balita demo site site but on Balita Demoz the CSS file has the style information.

If you were to copy the text from http://balita2.cooltoyz.info/wp-cont...01a.7f13df.css into http://balita.cooltoyz.info/wp-conte...1aa.0fb6f8.css you might have some luck.

kylecom is right, your css is blank, but I would not copy the css over just yet.
It doesn't just get wiped like that.
Also since you are in development with this site and it's not the live site yet, you need to disable the W3 Total Cache plugin.
There's no need to have that enabled when you don't have the site operating properly yet.

That should be a last step after your satisfied things function properly.

Depending on your settings, it also could, and likely is, causing you a problem.

As far as the theme not functioning properly without the wp ecommerce plugin, that's not really true.
While a theme/plugin dependency/required can be created, it's not so in this case except for the shopping feature.

The shopping cart features will kick function errors without it (which was avoidable by the author of theme), but the theme will otherwise work. The theme does not depend on css from the plugin.
Granted, it is intended as a shopping theme, but your issue has nothing to do with that.

Also, you should check your theme version.
I do know this was a theme released via smashingmagazine and if it's v1.1 (the latest one I could find), then it hasn't been updated since 10/24/2011 and will likely have issues, there have been many major updates to WP since then.

I think there is a strong possibility your W3 Total Cache plugin is causing the problem because of improper settings.

Wow I am always impressed by the level of support and knowledge here.

      Thank you both very much!!

I will first try playing around with W3 cache plugin and also learn how to change CSS file if needed (I've never had to do that yet!).

      Once again thank you both!

      Nick

Edit - I just tested it and you were right - it was the w3 cache plugin!

How could you tell I was using this plugin out of interest?

Source code and Firebug/web developer tools is a wonderful thing!
