How Many Blog Posts to Revive a Travel Site?

Hi,

I am trying to revive an old travel site that was hit by Penguin, possibly by Panda as well. Has good content and I'm struggling to rewrite and bring a lot more new content to refresh it...

But the biggest problem is with low link popularity - it was hit in mid 2012 and I haven't gotten any good quality new link since somewhere in 2010.

Site is a good niche travel site. Very good niche, indeed!

Google sees 3 backlinks to it, one of them a BOTW link and 2 links from related sites.
Google doesn't see own links as backlinks, which is strange - site has about 80 quality pages of very good, unique content, no over SEO!

So right now I'm putting a lot of energy into guest article posting: I've obtained 3 guest articles and because it's a narrow niche and don't want to spend much on guest posts, I think I can get about 10 guest articles/month.

Site should be revived by April-May. Do you think it's possible to "revive", recover until then?

How many guest articles should I need? I approximate I could do 30-50 more by April 1st.

I am also using the DISAVOW tool to remove hundreds of spam-scam-warez-linkfarm backlinks that have "appeared out of nowhere" during the past 2-3 years! It's been 2 weeks and the DISAVOW wasn't taken into consideration yet.

I also intend to file a reconsideration to lift penalties. Not sure how long that will require...

Any more tips, ideas on how to revive, recover, refresh this site in 2-3 months?
