You can try mobify!
I was using this service (free), and I think that
you can really quickly make a mobile version of your site.
The only condition is that you need to have your own site
because you will need to install a simple code on your site.
It's working with Wordpress too.

Scott,

Honestly, yes, you want to look for a tool that you know will be supported for years to come and has been created by people who are genuinely interested in the tool they are creating.

The problem with certain things such as plugins and the like being sold in forums like this is that from past experience, a lot of them end up not being supported down the track as marketers move on to their next product.

It's obviously not the case in every situation but you definitely want to do your research.

I have been selling mobile sites for a long time now and been through plenty of mobile website builders. The one I have finally settled on and recommend is jumpmobi. You can Google that. It's created by another member of this forum but he has been working on this for nearly 2 years and they are a genuine 'real-world' mobile company, not just a marketer selling a tool in a forum. They didn't spend two years on this tool not to support it so you can be confident they will keep the tool up to date with all the latest changes and mobile technologies.

It's a little more expensive than some other options out there but it's NOT a monthly charge and you really do get what you pay for these days.

Scott,

The one I recommended to you above is not limited to Wordpress. Yes, it uses Wordpress to create the mobile sites but that does NOT mean your clients main website has to be on Wordpress. It can be a regular HTML site, it doesn't matter.

That WSO you posted could be fine for your purposes but just keep in mind it will be very limited in what you can change on the site so they will likely look very similar.

Jumpmobi looks like a pretty complete solution. I'll have to take my time and go through it tomorrow ....it seemed like it was limited to wordpress sites, I must have missed those details.

Also, I need to check out some of your wso's, looks like they could fit perfectly into my plans. Might have to contact you on that.

Hey Scott,

I just bought that plugin and have created 3 new mobile sites.

They're extremely easy to do, no headaches with redirect scripts, no 'generic mobile' plugins which don't always play nice.

The idea with this plugin is to keep the mobile site SIMPLE, and it delivers exactly what it says.

I bought a more expensive offering as a WSO months ago, and there were too many hiccups so I gave up.

If you're looking for something you can set up in less than a half hour, and know it will work, buy this one and follow the PDF - it's as easy as pie.

PS - forgot to say there is no need to install any scripts with this plugin whatsover.

The mobile pages are totally separate - but within the same installation - and each version of the website has a link at the bottom of every page to go to the "other" version - very cool indeedy :-)

I need to create mobile sites for clients that might already have sites that are not wordpress. So, if a business has a website built with standard html its tough to convince him to change to wordpress.

Plus, I'd like to create the mobile site.... stick it in a new directory and add the mobile redirect script to the index page.

I don't want to touch their existing site for fear of something happening and getting blamed for it.

The way I see it, a mobile site is not meant to be a resized/responsive version of a full website - especially if someone is searching on a smart phone. They're unlikely to be looking for pages of info, maybe click-to-call, a directions map, pricing, menu (for restaurants), address, opening times, coupons, pricing etc

The benefit to be sold to the local business owner is that the mobile site limits choices .....so you can get the visitor to:

call
find directions to store
coupon
& maybe txt message
ect

That is simply not true - there are many WordPress themes that are responsive and mobile ready, but do not confuse that with being mobile optimized, there's a big difference, huge difference in fact...

For us we prefer WordPress responsive themes for desktop and tablet visitors, but for mobile we use our own adaptive wordpress theme which takes the best features of responsive and standalone optimized sites - we use it on existing Wordpress sites, or create standalone sites if the desktop site is HTML based and just redirect it.

Prior to this we built mobile optimized mobile sites from scratch manually - WillR has a great WSO to get you started in the mobile hemisphere, it really sets a good foundation for anyone who is serious about mobile http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...ml#post3920624

If the client comes to me with a standard html site I really can't use jumpmobi..... can I?

Also @WillR, he has a Mockup Script (wso) comparing how a clients existing site looks in a mobile device with a true mobile website.

Can your setup allow me to create mobile sites that look like the mockups I would be creating with Will's wso? http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...00-sold.html#1

It wouldn't make sense to create a mock up of potentially what the client's site would look like and then create and sell them something completely different

Hi Scott, doesn't matter if the main desktop is HTML or built using something else instead of WordPress- you would still have to install some type of mobile redirect script to forward mobile traffic to your mobile site. So in this instance if you happened to use our product you would just forward the mobile visitor to wherever you installed WordPress.

Hope that makes sense.

You can make similar looking sites to the mock ups created using Wills excellent MMM - PM though i can give you some more insight.

For long run you can trust on php mobile sites but it is a bit complicated for Newbie to customize it, you must have html css basic knowledge, each time you will need to update site you must do it manually and is really a bad solution if you have a dozens of customers that you manage their mobile website. The Pros is that it's really easy to install on any hosting you want with FTP commands. Back up is easy, hack proof... almost no database needed.

On the other hand there are WP plugins, themes or self hosted mobile builder scripts that is really really easy to build a mobile site and manage updates. The Cons is that you have to make sure you do backups on regular basis and most important is that the author of these scripts are active on upgrades, if they stop their support you could be in big trouble with your clients.

For online builders like Duda and other white label providers, it's easy to build website, they have great support team, courses, marketing materials... but the cons is that you have to pay them fees in order to partnered with them compare to 100¨percent money in your pocket when you do it yourself.

What I do provide to my clients is a mix of WP, self hosted builders and php scripts, I did not go with any of white label ones because I like to cash 100 percent and have full control on my mobile sites. I don't put all my eggs in the same basket. When one would stop I will tell my client that I'm re-designing it for free. They nevet asked le what builder I use... they just don't care.

Scott, before you make any commitment to a solution you want to base your business around, one of the other things you should seriously consider is how well the product is supported and maintained.

How fast someone responds to your support requests can affect you and your business - it could potentially make or break you.

I'm goin' with jQuery mobile and custom made sites. In that case I can be sure that the sites are really optimized for mobiles.

I really like Jay's jumpmobi at JumpMobi | WordPress Mobile Themes, Templates, Plugins & Tools looks like those guys put a lot of time and money in the system so support should be available for the long term and it does some fantastic stuff. Still reading the site...... will let you know when done.

You are right!

Its always better to do something....even if its wrong, rather than over analyzing and trying to make sure you have all your bases covered.

I'm just trying to make sure all my pieces fit fairly well before I start. I have a unique situation, been ill for a long time and I want to be able to provide my services despite being sick. I've never worked for anyone before and I know how difficult is is for local businesses to succeed today.

So our successes and failures will have consequences for more than just me...... it's going to hurt or improve the local business guy..... that's what I want to do.

So, I'll take my time until I know I have somewhat of a system down and have products that are supported very well..... anyone responsible would want to do that.

I'm close though
