Hi

Just ran across this article while I was looking for some unrelated information about AJAX. As the post title says this is a list of 15 Firefox plugins specifically for web developers.

Most of you are probably aware of many of these but you may find a new one here. It's stuff like this that certainly solidifies Firefox's place as the most versatile browser for web developers.

Enjoy!

  • I'm only using Firebug and MeasureIt. These are the only plugins I needed. Very useful, indeed. ^_^
  • There are a lot of pluggins for marketers too!

Ed Dale did a gread video, here is the list:

Install These Firefox Plugins | Mike Mindel - Thirty Day Challenger

With SEO for firefox, for example you will see in your search results stats, page rank, incomming links of each competing site, ¡so cool!
  • I use flashgot since I do so much downloading and uploading, also just installed the flashblock flash extension, LOVE it, I hate video ads and various other flash based marketing doodads. A simple click runs the flash if needed, otherwise it's blocked.
Another great one, DeskCut. I like to shortcut things, FF didn't have an easy way to do so.
and finally a tab manager that highlights the tab I am working in.
These aren't necessarily developer, but they totally make my life and production time easier!
  • Thank you so much for this one
  • Thanks a lot for the list . Would really help me out .
  • Bookmarked. It most useful list.
  • Awesome list, I'll be bookmarking it for sure, and of course adding some of them onto Firefox right now.
  • Any firefox plugin list for web masters?
  • I am a novice in web development..this should help me..thanks

  • Great share! I am a 'die hard' IE user, but WANT to learn to use Firefox more. I just never had the time to play with it long enough to really learn the 'ins and outs' of it.

I gotta get over being a chicken at some point, lol. I know there is a lot I'm missing out on by not useing it. Your find helped me to get motivated.

    Many thanks!

    • You're very welcome - if I can convert another IE user over to FireFox then my job here is done!

Seriously, if you are planning to do any sort of serious web development Firefox is an indispensable tool, a large part due to these plugins but equally so because of its better conformance to web standards than Explorer.

You will find the transition to be a pretty smooth one, IE 7 actually adapted many Firefox features (such as tabbed browsing) so if you're used to that you should find Firefox's interface to be pretty intuitive. You can also import all of your IE Favorites into Firefox's bookmarks. Once you start realizing the power you can have with the huge collection of Plugins and start to see the web in a new light (like round corners on CSS-styled pages) I'm sure you'll give up your evil IE ways!

If you do get into serious development the very most useful plugin is Firebug. The ability to peek into the DOM (Document Object Model) while you are testing your site is simply amazing. To be fair I understand that Microsoft has something like that out for IE8 now, but Firebug has been a vital tool for years and Firefox understands a lot more of the DOM than IE ever will!

      Welcome to Firefox!

      Bill
