Importance of coding errors to SEO

Hello,

I ran my website code through the code checker on validator.w3.org and it shows that I have tons of errors. I am not sure how to fix these, but am curious if they will affect my SEO ranking in any way?

Here is a link to the error check that I ran:

[Invalid] Markup Validation of http://www.socialyeti.com/clubs-and-lounges/lounges/the-electric-room/ - W3C Markup Validator

Any one have some insight on this topic?

  • Code errors could indeed effect your rank IF the code errors slow down or completely stop the spiders from crawling your website. Code errors can also cause your website to bog down when at all times it should be running AFAP (as fast as possible). I would address these if you can figure how to fix them.
  • While HTML validation is useful and you should attempt to eliminate/reduce the number of errors, it's not generally an issue for SEO as these examples demonstrate:

[Invalid] Markup Validation of http://www.warriorforum.com/ - W3C Markup Validator

[Invalid] Markup Validation of http://www.google.com/ - W3C Markup Validator
  • Focus more on page speed, user experience and being free from errors such as broken links, blocking spiders, etc. rather than worrying about 100% compliant code.
  • Most of the errors are for open graph meta tags, which don't W3C validate. I wouldn't be concerned with those. You may want to figure out how to fix the third to last issue "Line 140, Column 7: Stray end tag head.". While this may not impact SEO, it may impact user experience and page display in some browsers.
