Anyone have any experience with phpBB forum software? I am looking for a stable platform, that doesn't cost too much. The other prominent forum software I have see costs around $350ish dollars, which is too much for me to pay right now.

Many people are using phpBB or myBB.

If it wouldn't be stable they would not use it

To start with phpBB is not a bad thing.

My last forum was myBB, I have modified a theme and added e.g. a slider, a "special" navigation and some more...

I personally think that if your going to go with a forum software and want something super stable, go with VB and not PHPbb

Means phpBB and other forums software is not stable? Oh come on...

There are a lot of different softwares, if they all would not be super stable then there would be ONLY one left

Show me an example where phpBB or other free forums software is NOT stable, please.

And he already stated he does not have $$$ to spend now.

As you need free, there is no reason that you could not choose PhpBB or MyBB. It's up to you to decide whether free or paid one.
In my opinion, PhpBB is very good open source forum software that I've ever used. For stable, I don't think PhpBB is unstable.

PhpBB is an open source forum/discussion board software that allow you to create the one similar to this site (WarriorForum) that you are posting. No more to say and just hit Google, you'll know what it is.

Just report it with the triangle to the left of each post. Don't quote it or there is another spam link in the topic, and more work for the moderators if they even notice it.

Here is a vote by forum owners on the best free software.

    http://www.forum-software.org/vote-f...f-2012/results

For paid, a lot of enormous forums have been switching from VB to XenForo - Compelling Community Forum Software.

People might notice that this forum runs the 3.8.7 version of VB. The 4.x versions have been out for a couple of years now but they haven't been nearly as good.

I haven't used VB as an admin, but post in a few of them. The 4.x versions are super clunky compared to this forum.

MyBB is nice, so is Vanilla if you are willing to dig in and do some of your own coding and deeper customizations.. Vanilla also provides an alternative approach to forums.

I run 2 VB forums, honestly they are overladen with features that most will never be used. I started a BBS forum (old computer nuts will remember the BBS days) with Vanilla and while it's a bit more simplistic, it's has been more enjoyable of an experience putting it together, trying out some mod code, doing my own work to it, etc..

Use what feels best for you, and puts out the forum look you are going for. Everyones idea is different so my 2 VB automotive forums might have ZERO resemblance to what you are trying to achieve.
