Hey guys..

I have an html file... it has a background in css created from a psd file.. and then it has a white container (that expands automatically based off of the amount of content).

I am looking for an editor where I can edit this, add content (and hopefully it will show the content area expand in the editor itself, without me needing to open the new html file in a browser).

Does anyone have any suggestions? If there is no free program that will show the updates instantly in the editor, anything paid?

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

thanks

I started converting websites from PSD to HTML using Notepad++(Free) before. However, everything is much faster using Adobe Dreamweaver(Paid).

    There is also PagebreezeAmaya
    Coffee Cup.
    Netbeans

You don't say anything about your competence level so its hard to know what might suit you best. Pagebreeze may be the easiest, but more limited, then Komposer. If you are writing scripts and more complex code you might like Netbeans or Eclipse.

I am someone that does not like these WYSIWYG editors and all those PSD slicing crap.

I prefer a simple text editor, in my case I am using Notepad++ with the Zend Coding extension.

    Hand coded FTW!

I think I may have been a tad misleading or confusing in my original post..

I had the html / css created by a professional web designer... Now all I want to do is to be able to open the html file in an editor, so I can place videos, text, pictures and other content, without having to mess around in the actual html code (so instead use wysiwyg).

    Does this help explain better?

I've built html sites before... but not in this fashion where I'm starting with a file someone else created for me... So I'm fairly competent with html etc

I would suggest Dreamweaver - you can get a 30 day free trial, and then either buy outright or subscribe for about $27 per month to keep using it after that,

      cheers,

      Jon.

Well, If you are really serious about your site, then either hand code it or outsource it.

Do not trust in WYSIWYG editors out there, most of them will give you a bunch of crap codes, which would lead to more headaches in the future if you want a complex design.

WYSIWYG is not what you see is what you get, but instead what you see is what you garbage..

I use Coffeecup html editor. Although not WYSIWYG you can preview how it will look. It auto populates code and only shows code that is allowed for whatever you are coding.
Eg if you are coding <div> it will only show options allowed in a <div> element.
It is not free (I think $50 or so with lifetime updates).
Other than that komposer is probably the best for you

    Hi there!

NetBeans, Notepad, Notepad++ are a few open source software used to edit html/css at no licencing costs. If you hold a licence of Microsoft Office, then FrontPage comes with the package that is used for web designing and development

    Hope this helps
