Skins for Woothemes Canvas?

Hello,

I have seen some neat work people have done with Woothemes Canvas...I am not a graphic designer and seem to struggle to make a site look good. I looked around expecting to find skins for Canvas and found almost nothing. Can anyone point me to a source or two for this? Or, do you have anything you would share?

Also...am I correct in thinking that the export of the theme settings, plus any graphic objects, would be all that was needed to duplicate a customized (woo)theme from one site to another?

Thanks,

Fritz

You won't find any "skins" for a theme.
Styling to your liking is about CSS.

You won't find anyone just selling (or giving away) a custom CSS file for canvas.
The point of the canvas theme is to start with a nice clean theme or "canvas".

You'll need to design/style to your liking either yourself or hire somebody.
Woothemes themselves is a good place to start to customize canvas, they have a few tutorials specific to canvas.
Keep in mind that most styling is done in the CSS file.

If you want to duplicate a customized theme and settings, then yes, export the theme settings and physically move the customized theme to the other domain with any custom graphics if they lie outside the theme folder for whatever reason.

The export of the theme "settings" is not required to use the newly designed/styled theme though, just the theme itself.

David, thanks for the response. Is there something different about customized Canvas designs as compared to custom Thesis skins? Many people and sites do sell or give away skins for Thesis, but maybe this is not an apples-to-apples comparison. (Obviously Thesis is much more widely used.)

    Yes, there is a difference.
The Thesis skins you see are really extensions of the Thesis theme framework.
The canvas theme would be an extensions of the Woothemes framework.
So not apples-to-apples in the way your comparing them.

Thesis would be a framework.... and the skins you see are themes for Thesis.
Woothemes would be a framework.... and Canvas would be a theme (or skin), so your trying to skin (theme) a theme.

If you want to compare Thesis to WooThemes, you'd have to compare it the their framework.

Ok, thank you, I do see your point about the differences, but not completely understanding it. Thesis and Canvas, out of the box, are plain and have many built-in options for customizing, without coding. So, as far as that goes, they seem to be in the same category. From that point forward they can both be customized extensively and those customizations can be shared.

If the above statements are true, then the distinction of where a framework ends and a theme begins, to me, seems like just semantics. I fully understand that to you, with a more extensive knowledge of what is happening under the covers, my perspective may seem a bit naive.

No need to clarify further unless you want to. I appreciate you taking the time to (try to) enlighten me. :-)

Yes, a little bit of semantics.
Both products are good, so likely best to find a design/theme on one of those frameworks that is closest to your idea then customize and tweak it.

Woothemes has many styled themes, the canvas is more of a plain slate as far as style goes.

Just my opinion, but I think for beginners, Thesis may be harder to understand then woothemes when it comes to customizing beyond the base css styling.
