Confused...which CMS?

Hi
I need a developer to build a new website but I don't know what the base of the site should be. He suggested a C.R.U.D style website.

Website will have one person posting a job online that other people will be replying to.
Main functionality:
  • 1 person can post the job. That job gets updated on home page.
  • Other people reply to that job posting. Auto emails get sent to various parties.
  • All new jobs get compiled in an email and at a certain time each day get auto emailed.
  • Each person who signs up gets access to a members area.
  • Each new job posting gets its own page built automatically. On posting, person can review posting and submit to go live. Live page will auto grab headline and build SEO meta tags for new page.
  • Each new job will have a countdown for when the job becomes unavailable.
  • Site must have solid CMS where we can add content.
What programming language should this site be build in? What sites are best to go for freelance web developers? Would a CRUD style be the way to go? Are there customer template sites that can be used or would this need to be 100% custom with own CMS?

Thanks. Look forward to feedback.

    i think you can achieve that by using Wordpress ! Still there is a lot of freelance Clone Scripts.. if you are a programmer so this can't be a big deal.. but if you need less hassle use wordpress with a custom theme and plugins!!

    Goodluck

      Thanks for the reply. Can wordpress deal with adding new pages automatically when someone posts and then deleting them when they expire? Would this be via various plugins as out of the box it doesn't do that right?
      I'm not a programmer so I'm looking for someone who has the right skills and ability to build this site for me.
      Wordpress sounds like an option but I'd need to be guided with plugins to be used etc. Will need to find a programmer for that.
      Thanks.
      Any other feedback very welcome. Thanks in advance.

    No, wordpress won`t do that unless it`s modified by a programmer. I say do a custom job dor this project, some cms`s are more than you need and less than you want.

      I too would suggest a custom solution - I will no longer in good conscience recommend WordPress as it's too easily hacked -

        I'm sorry, but Wordpress is not easily hacked. Older versions, sure; but the newer versions are more safe than any other mainstream CMS.

        On topic: you can do all of this with Wordpress, and you don't need a programmer to do it. I'm 99% positive that there's multiple plugins out there for each task you need done, if you need an extra hand and a little guidance to get things setup feel free to drop me a private message.

        But it wouldn't take you but a few days to get find everything you need and get it setup the way you want it, although things can be a little tricky sometimes.

    Best thing to do would be post a project on FREELANCER.com , guru or odesk and outsource it if you have the budget. Just post your project and the requirements of the website and give the project winner your description of the website and how you can easily access them. You can either tell them to do the site in any CMS you like just ask them how you want to easily manage the site. And if you don't have too much budget just google templates and get them very cheap.

    I'm pretty sure that could be built using a base install of Drupal and a few plugins.

    I would get the project quoted for a scratch build and by a Drupal developer.

    Drupal dev could save you quite a bit on development costs.

    Really appreciate the feedabck.
    Looks like wordpress has mixed opinions but it could be possible using this.
    I'm very keen to outsource this as I don't have the technical skill and using the freelance sites is definitely one of my preferred options.

    The Drupal option sounds interesting and perhaps worth pursuing. Looks like I'll go down the outsource track and try and get a professional to develop the site. Whilst the overall concept is relatively simple I can see how it is important to ensure everything is tied in together and done properly.

    Happy to hear any other thoughts. Really appreciate your comments so far.

    In regards to custom solutions, can it sometimes happen that their solution is completely wrong and you have to start from scratch? What if the custom designer builds something that other people cannot work from?

    So any ideas on the foundation so it is potentially easy to transfer to another coder/programmer ?

    I really appreciate your feedback.

    Code:

    If you have the programmer use a framework it makes it easier for another programmer to take over the project at a later date. Here are the more commonly used frameworks for building web apps.

    PHP -> CodeIgniter
    Ruby -> Ruby on Rails
    Python -> Django

    I think you should go for custom development, but if you insist on using open-source CMS for your website, then nothing less than Drupal will work. You need to contact an expert Drupalist for your website design and development, else you will be in total mess.

      Wordpress has got a couple of mentions but the most dominant and enthusiastic recommendation from 2 is Drupal. This seems to be a recurring theme. Perhaps Drupal framework is ideal with a custom built solution.

      Budget: We have room for a complete outsourced solution but when some of you say you will need money, what sort of ball park figure are we talking about here? Would a custom built solution like this cost more than $2,000 or $3,000? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    According to me the best is to get a custom cms developed according to your requirements. You can also go with wordpress but you will have to get it customized for various factors like scalability, security, etc. Don't even touch the ready made freelancer clones as most of them are poorly coded and they don't even have a proper support. What is your budget for this project? As I doubt you will be able to achieve something like freelancer in a low budget for something like this. If you have any queries, you can hook with me on skype.

    Wordpress has come a long way. I've built my entire business on it and have NEVER had a problem. I use WPengine hosting and they take care of all the security issues, plus I have some security plugins installed on my site. The biggest issue with hacking is to have a secure password that isn't easily guessed. That will stop about 99% of the hack attempts. If you want to see a wordpress based site check out my link in my signature. I'm using the Weaver Theme and there is no fancy coding involved.
